In 1969, my senior year in high school, I went to a Beach Boys concert at Florida Field here in Gainesville. Opening acts were Strawberry Alarm Clock and Jefferson Airplane. It was fantastic; the heyday of 60s rock and roll!

The recent death of his wife probably pushed his diminished capabilities beyond the point of return. His influence on rock and pop music will last forever. A tortured genius most of his life. My wife and I go to many concerts at an outdoor pavilion in Dayton, Ohio. We saw Brian Wilson as a solo act 4-5 years ago. He was not in great shape then but the concert was amazing. His vocals were near perfect as well as his piano playing. He just kind of toddled on stage, parked behind his piano and performed a flawless 2 hour set. Of course the backing band was great and Johnston was with him. A friend who lives across the street from the venue said Brian directed the sound check for almost 4 hours before the show. He wanted everything perfect. Most sound checks are 30 minutes tops he said at that venue.
Thanks for the music Brian Wilson and the rest of the Beach Boys.

I saw the Beach Boys on a double bill concert with Chicago, but that was unfortunately during the time he wasn't performing with the band.

Brian was a genius perhaps a savant who was driven by his father and an overwhelming desire to produce perfect harmony. Influenced by music from bands like the Beatles he turned around and produced albums like Pet Sounds which in turn influenced the Beatles further to produce Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Much of The Beach Boys music was done in the studio, and covered by artists you've never heard of. They were known as the The Wrecking Crew, it's no surprise if you've never heard of them, much of this groups sound appears on the most popular albums of bands from the 60's and 70's. Brian conducted them like a orchestra.

"They were the stone cold rock and roll professionals and there may never ever be a group of rock and roll musicians of that caliber again". Some of the bands they cover, Righteous Brothers, Sonny and Cher, Glen Campbell, Monkees, Association, Carpenters, Mamas and The Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, and many many more.

I highly recommend this video, it's a recognition to the professionals and highlights the contribution this group made to the countless sounds we love from that era, also shows Brian's unique genius and ability for creating perfection.

Bought a new Pet Sounds vinyl LP last month. Wow, it never fails to impress. Funny how back in the 80's people were ditching vinyl in favor of CD's. Now with USB sticks etc, CD are yesterday's news while good vinyl's popularity increases. I never ditched my turntable or my vacuum tube amps . Listen to "In My Room", sort of gives some insight into Brian's life and then there's those excellent harmonies.

I took my girl when she was prob 6 years old to. BB concert on the lawn at pine Knob, she still remembers it as the most fun concert she ever went to, Stamos was drumming at the one we went to.

Love & Mercy was a good movie, I dont know how many creative liberties they took making the movie but was still a good movie based on Brian Wilson. The amount of time he put into the arrangement of the Beach Boys music was amazing.

He's lucky to still be alive considering his immense drug abuse, which continued on into the 90's and led to paranoia early on in his career.

Been a Beach Boys fan since the mid 60's, loved most all that they did. One of my favorite albums was Stars and Stripes that was done in 1996. It was a group of their best hits that was covered by different country music stars, with the beach boys doing the back up.
