I tend to agree with you. If you look at the various SD components parts listings in McCarthy's book, old Royal Pontiac published stuff, and other various printed material, including the factory '62/'63 parts books, everything under the sun that was on those cars is listed but for that scoop. Why would they have consistently left it off?

Guys, the "story" is in the book!Farmer had a fit when they showed up in 63.He was a huge PITA even if you could provide pontiac part numbers. He would not have let them run if one was not presented.I was at Pomona too many times and had to deal with him. After they had the scoop number he want to see the number for the HOLES!Tom

Tom,
I don't doubt you and I have read the story although I can't remember what book it was in. My problem is I show my cars in AACA National Meets and they will only accept factory documents. Seems like there should be something somewhere in writing.

Tom that paragraph notes the part # for the hood with the hole in it, not the scoop itself.

Finally got the steelies in, 17" x 8" w/5.25" BS for the rear, 17"x7" w/4.75" BS for the front. I wanted to do a fit check before we go out for powder coat. The center caps and wheels are to be gloss black, I'm going to try the chrome trim rings to see how it looks. Might just leave off the trim rings, we'll have to see it on the ground with the rubber on.

I'm going to try a 275/45 17 rear, may have to go with a 255. 225/45-17 on the front.

That will look ace. Good to see another '64 build on the go - I like the satin grey paint, too.

Couple shots with gloss black powdercoat on the steelies. The center caps were chrome originally, I had them powdercoated as well to see how I like the look. I do like the trim rings, still on the fence with the center caps. May just run it with exposed chrome lug nuts. Here are some shots both ways:

Sure needs a bath:

No center cap:

With center cap:

I think the centre caps would look awesome in a polished or brushed/machined finish.

The wheels look great against the satin grey paint.

That's a good suggestion. Maybe try and get the same brushed nickel finish on the fender spears applied to the center caps.

The Cat gets a bath and a little bit of time out in the sunshine. First time outdoors in 9 months:

Ride height in the rear is just about perfect, it will drop another 1/2" or so when we get the new fuel tank in. No motor or trans in the front, so it's riding sky high:

The gloss black center caps are starting to grow on me:

This side without center caps:

Everybody's favorite hood scoop:

Time to get the motor in.

Yep, it does look good. The more I see those wheels, the more I really like them.

Well the Photobucket calamity has pretty much ruined this thread, but there has been progress on the car. Got the 421 in today for a first fit check after many months of delays. Also, the TKO600 arrived today with bellhousing, so now we'll see how bad the tunnel needs to be hacked up to fit the trans.

Sure feels good to finally get the engine in. A little interference with the drivers side motor mount, next we'll see how the headers fit.

And a couple of older shots of the overall car to replace the lost photos:
