Default Roseland Pontiac / Chicago, IL

Roseland Pontiac has been in business for 102 years in the same location and owned by the same family. Of course I know there weren't Pontiac dealers 102 years ago. They started out selling Buicks and switched to Pontiac when they were introduced. They were months short of being a 100 year GM dealer when Pontiac was shut down. I stopped in there on their last day of business as a Pontiac Dealer. Ironically it was Halloween. It's still operating today as a used car dealer and an auto repair shop. The show room is a time capsule. On the website if you look at the Buick Dealer shot from the 20's and the pictures I took a couple of years ago you can see that the wall designs and even the floor pattern are still the same. Go to this website for more pictures.

I find it odd that with Royal being such a huge part of Pontiac's racing program and how many cars were bought there, more people would have pictures to post from there.

Sorry, not at this time. They moved to a new location in 1963. I've attached a newspaper ad from the move. Strangely the original site still exist, while their new location has since been torn down, and is now an Aldi Food Store. What's the delivery date on your car? I grew up in Blue Island and have been to both locations. If it's from the first location I could get a photo the next time I'm over there. They moved around Feb 20,1963. Both locations were on Western Ave. about a mile apart.

Found this picture of Borek's second location just before the building was torn down.

I am pretty sure this building once housed Pontiac dealer Willis Motor Company in North Canton, Ohio. I think the address is 202 W Maple. Building has since been torn down.

Here's the original showroom as it looks today.

This was the original Service Dept. Don't know when they tore it down, oddly they left the foundation and concrete floor. I remember a brand new brown 1959 Pontiac station wagon sitting just inside the garage door, the whole front clip was smashed from an accident.

This is a 1931 phonebook listing for same dealership when it was Oakland/Pontiac.

Good info Bill thanks! If I remember right, they tore out that service department in the late 70's. I grew up about 3 blocks from there but remember it as an auto repair shop.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before but one of the best places to find info on old dealerships is your local library. I found that if you spend a little time and check the microfilms from old local newspapers you can find all kinds of cool ads and pictures.

This is my Grandfather's former dealership, Even Motor Company, in Alton, Iowa. They were at this location from 1948 until 1980. I've always wanted to see a PHS from here. I hear it is currently a sports bar.

those small dealerships always get my attention as I think about how cool it must have been to own a dealership / gas / service station like this. not trying to get nosey, but did he make a normal, above normal or great living out of it??? any idea how many cars a year he would sell?
if you could do it today, I would own a small dealership like this in a small town.

I would say he made a normal to above normal living out of it. They lived pretty simple lives, definitely not extravagant. My Gramdpa was also the town Fire Chief for 30 years, but idk if he even got paid for that. The dealership did employ his 5 sons at varying times, and probably all 5 at the same time. My Dad was a mechanic/service manager. I will find and post some of the Pontiac related items I have that he received. My Dad wound up being a Chevy-Olds dealer in a town of 9k in SE Colorado from '78-'85. I will say it was pretty cool being around there as a 10-16 year old, and getting paid to hang around cars.

Default Good Bye Roseland Pontiac

After 104 years Roseland Pontiac on Chicago's south side is closing soon. Owned the entire time by the same family they were originally a Buick dealer. They were just short of 100 years when GM dropped them, since then they've been a used car and repair business.

That's cool!

Any info on it, like address etc?
Too bad he didn't save any records from there.

I would like to add it to my Dealer database.

Try this in my Dealer Search page:

Dealer Search

Zone 04 or Dealer 407 , or Standard Pontiac or switched to Suburban in 70's.
