Default 8.2 rear axle yoke question

I am having the original rear axle from my 66 GTO rebuilt (I broke it in high school in 1987). Unfortunately, over the years, parts have been pilfered off of it for various cars. I am missing the original yoke. My brother gave me one off of one of his 68 or 69 Skykarks (also 8.2 BOP), but the outside diameter where the seal rides is too small (the inside diameter of the seal is too big). The spline count is the same, at 27 splines. We verified with the original seal, and it is also the larger inside diameter. Were there differences between Pontiac and Buick yokes? Different years maybe? Does anyone know where I can find the correct yoke?

Thanks,
Importsmasher

https://www.frankspontiacparts.com/e...nsionparts.htm Franks has some yokes. You may be able to use your buick yoke by getting the 68-69 pinion seal though.

Thanks for the input! I looked up the 66, 68 and 69 pinion seals on my local auto parts store website, and they all list the same part. I guess I need to get the actual dimensions from the shop.

65 used a different seal so maybe his got swapped out somewhere. Try and locate a seal for 65 and see if that fits.

I looked up a 65, and it still shows the same seal. The ID of the listed seal shows as 1.940"; I have a spare yoke here that is approximately 1 5/8 inches (I don't have anything here to measure it exactly, but it's clearly less than 1.94). I'm waiting for the shop to call me back with actual dimensions of the seal and yoke he has.

My listing shows 64-65 with a seal number CR 16500 and 66- CR 19273
also shows earlier with smaller pinion shaft.

http://www.jdrace.com/content/diff_id/10bBOP_Buick.php You need the 8620n seal.

This is the Buick 8.2" pinion seal:

Not sure the outer diameter is large enough for the Pontiac 8.2" though.

Thanks for all the replies! Looking at the dimensions of the 8620n/16500, the od is too small (2.66 vs. 2.76 for my housing.

Anyone have a Pontiac 8.2 yoke they'll part with?

This is the last issue I need to resolve before I can put my original axle back in. And my son is anxiously waiting for the 3 23 that's currently in my car for his 65 Tempest.
