Default Steering shaft

So I went to install a new power steering gearbox on my 65 Lemans. To my surprise, it's got a solid (non-collapsible) steering shaft.

I want to make it collapsible, if possible without removing the shaft from the column. I'm open to taking the column out though if necessary.

I was thinking a Borgeson Universal

Thinking cut off the splined end of the old one and using a lathe weld it on. On the other end cut off near the existing column and use a coupler, or sleeve/pin.

I'm open to other ideas or critique of my plan.

67 uses a collapsible column & entire column can be adapted .
