Firm pedal/weak brakes
I drove my ‘67 GTO last night and the car just doesn’t brake well with normal pedal. The car has manual drums all around and the pedal feels right. I own a 66 with manual brakes that stops perfectly with much less pedal effort.
I have driven the car very little since buying it and would like it to stop like the 66! It kind of acts like the pads aren’t providing the right friction to the drums ( glazed pads, or fluid on the pads) Or maybe my pedal effort isn’t generating the right pressure at the wheel cylinders?? |

Pull all 4 wheels & check , i am sure you will find the issue.

I had this issue with my '65 a year or two ago and it turned out to be a collapsed rubber hose to the rear brakes. I was only getting front brakes. Mine is a manual brake 4 drum car.

Does the master cylinder look like it was changed before you bought the car? If it has too Large a bore master it will act that way. My 1967 had that problem.

If the m/c bore is larger [ than it should be ], you will have a harder pedal.

i have a 66 with manual drums. I'm on fire dept, had a call and had about 4 stop signs to go thru getting there. Just that one trip glazed the shoes badly. Also replaced shoes with high mileage shoes, they were terrible, went to cheap softer shoes and worked much better. Didn't care about mileage, just wanted brakes. Good luck

Brakes
I have a new rear/center hose and correct MC coming. I’ll pull the wheels and take a look at the shoes and drums as well. Hope no wheel cylinder leaks are found!

When jacked up, have someone push brake pedal and spin each wheel to make sure cylinders are working.
