Default 66 with manual drum brakes and replaced m/c with a 67

I installed the 67 dual cylinder master cylinders and replaced all 4 wheel cylinders. The master cylinder was bench bled but extremely to mount on the studs at the firewall. While trying to bleed the brakes it doesn't want to flow out of the bleed screw. I then checked the brake pedal and there was give on the pedal. I couldn't even push it down 1/4". I'm wondering if my brake rod is too long and if it is too long how long should it be?

It's supposed to be for drum brakes.

Make sure this feature is the same on the new master cylinder as it is on the one you removed (the depth of the hole in the middle):

I had to choose a different master cylinder when I converted on my '63 Grand Prix.

I don't have the old m/c so if someone could get me the measurement from the brake rod pocket to where it mounts on the firewall I could resize my rod to make it a correct fit.
