Question 66 Catalina frame serial number

I have a 66 Catalina that I want to check the frame #
Almost all of the frame numbers are unreadable.
I have tried using a wire wheel and lightly sanding the rust, not much help
Is there some chemical I could use to make the VIN stampings clearer?
I know in coins, there is a solution to make the worn away stamped dates re-appear
The car has more options than listed in the PHS.
Just trying to see if the frame matches the door post VIN
Thanks, Ron

For buffalo nickels there is a product called 'nic-a-date' which makes the dates readable. The date is the highest point on the obverse of the coin and wore off first. It is an acid.

Sincerely,

Ron, check with your local police dept auto theft or detective unit. I know that when I was a detective we had an acid that we could lift serial numbers off of guns and stolen car frames even when they had been ground or filed off.
