Problem with laptop
I've got a fairly new Acer laptop with a slight glitch. As I type a sentence, all of a sudden the cursor will just stop and I can't type anymore. I have to hit the touchpad to get the cursor back on the page to be able to start typing again. It seems to happen after a certain # of characters or maybe a certain length of time. Is there a setting that I have screwed up or is something else up? Anyone else ever have this problem?

I come across quite a few people with newer laptops where they hit the touchpad with their palm and click off the screen they are typing on, or open other programs. You can turn up the palm resistance settings on the mouse control panel to see if that is your problem.

I've gotten fed up with the touchpad. I disable it and just keep the buttons enabled. Then I use a mouse with it.

Seems this has nothing to do with the touchpad. I'm holding my hands above the touchpad and it still just 'stopped' on me. It's getting aggravating!

> How do you go about disabling the touchpad on an Acer laptop?
On my Acer there's an option to disable the touchpad on the Synaptic tab in the Mouse applet in the Control Panel. Also try; Download the latest driver for the touchpad. Here is where I get the driver. 'Drivers | Synaptics' (http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers) more suggestions on a fix here; http://forums.cnet.com/7723-19681_102-350303.html

My old Dell Inspiron gives the option to disable in BIOS setup. I too hate touchpads!!

There's a mouse and possibly a pointing device or similar folder in the Control Panel. You've got options in there you can change. On mine, there's a "Palm Sensitivity" setting which, if set toward the high side, detects when a hand is resting on the pad and the pointer doesn't move.
You can also go into Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Mouse or other pointing device/ and simply disable the touch pad.
