Default 18" pontiac steel wheels?

Does anyone make them? I know there are chevy wheels like this. That would be killer if they did....

I had a set of 17X8" steel wheels with dog dish caps.

They weighed 37 pounds each bare, hate to think how much an 18" one would weigh.

Too heavy, the only drawback. Looked really cool though.

I replaced the 17X8" steel wheels with cast aluminum 18X9" wheels that weigh only 20.8 pounds each, mainly to clear some very big disc brakes (14" & 13.4" C6 Z06).

I'm interested to know more about your c6 brake setup. Was that on a GTO/Pontiac?

Ouch. 37lbs each in a 17" wheel.....That's kind of a deal breaker for me. This steelies you have sure are cool looking though. Its too bad someone couldn't get them done in a 2pc cast aluminum

Not sure if this is where Bman got his stuff but Kore3.com is probably the best place to get the bolt on Vette brake goods.

C6 Z51 {my setup} http://kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10103-02

C6 Z06 {Bman's setup} http://kore3.com/proddetail.php?prod=10103-03

I wanted to do the Z06 stuff. Its pretty awesome but it takes a lot of clearance in the spokes and with the wheel i'm going to run, I just didn't have the room.

Had them custom-built about 15 years ago, but nowadays you can pretty much buy them right off the shelf from Wheel Vintiques in 7, 8 & 9 inch widths. They can also do custom backspacing if I'm not mistaken.

A stock 15X7" Rally II weighs 25 pounds, even that small size outweighs one of my current 18X9" cast aluminum wheels by 4 pounds. Simply by replacing all 5 of my 17X8" steel wheels with the 18" wheels I was able to take over 80 pounds off the car. Of course the enormous C6 brake rotors do add some weight back, but for a worthy cause.

Saw a set of billet aluminum 18" wheels made to look like regular steel wheels on a Mopar several years ago at a cruise-in, not sure what they cost but surely very expensive to have made.

Yes, my C6 Z06 brakes were sourced from Tobin at KORE3, most of the other suspension components were bought from Mark at SC&C.

Thread showing most of what I've done to the car ('64 Tempest) so far suspension-wise, not completed unfortunately due to some family issues: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=610357

b-man - Do you know if the reproduction dog dish caps will fit the wheel vintiques 17 inch steel wheels. Do you know if these wheels clear 13 inch (F) 11.625 inch (R) Baer discs / calipers ?

Thanks

The Wheel Vintiques wheels should fit both genuine GM and repro dog dish caps, wouldn't make any sense if they didn't.

Can't say if they'd clear 13" front Baer brakes, but the 11.625 rears should clear easily.

Hard to determine brake fit without the wheels in hand, perhaps you could buy one wheel to check fitment with. Get Baer to send you some profile templates of the their brake assemblies to try inside the wheel.

If it didn't work out you could always return the one wheel, or perhaps find a different comparable brake setup that will fit the wheel.

Before I bought my 14" and 13.4" Z06 brakes I printed out the templates provided by KORE3 on their website. I glued them to some pieces of cardboard, carefully trimmed them along the outlines and made sure they would fit inside my 18" O.Z. Racing wheels before I placed my order.

Thanks, I recently had a "custom" set done by circle racing that have been powder coated black and want to add the red stripe like you did but I am concerned it won't stick to the powder coating

The tire looks to be a 255/45-18, what brand is it?

Tire weights are listed on the Tire Rack for a lot of different tires, each brand can vary by a few pounds for the same size. After checking a few brands that size weighs between 25 and 29 pounds.

You can just put the whole thing on your bathroom scale and subtract the tire weight to get the wheel weight.
