Need help with 1970 A-body non-GTO stuff, please!
Hi, maybe someone is handy with this stuff? Can't seem to find good answers online, and I'm traveling at the moment so I can't even see if I have answers at home.
Thank you! |

Hey Diego! I don't have the answer to your wagon question, but the T-37 was a mid-year introduction of the hardtop availability in the Tempest line-up and added the 23337 model. The Tempest die-cast badge was still installed along with the "T-37" decal below. The introduction seemed to be at the same time the GT-37 was offered (March/April 1970).
"T-37" replaced the "Tempest" name in 1971 for both coupe and hardtop models (2-door). I have seen a few 23327 GT-37's (not the factory promotional photos), but not many...way more hardtops than post coupes in 1970 (of course no 233327 GT-37's in 1971 due to the sport mirrors added to the package). I hope that helps...Dennis |

Hi, Dennis.... good to hear you've seen some 3327 GT-37s.
So did the 3327 Tempest become a T-37 mid-year, joined by a 3337 T-37 as well? |

A pic from Service Manual (Dec 1969 print)
Here are some pics from an article on T37 and GT37 by DeMauro: Hope this one is readable:

Is interesting but for GM as the model number or the last two digits of the style number went up, so did the price. Also you could read the model number as 2 (Pontiac) 42 (GTO) 37 (Coupe) or 67 "vert). The trailing 67 for a 'vert was common across GM.
1 = Chevrolet 2 = Pontiac 3 = Oldsmobile 4 = Buick 5 = Cadillac 6 = GMC So a 70 Buick Grand Sport 455 Coupe would be style number 44637. Once you know the codes it is easy. |

Thanks, gentlemen, but there's nothing here that shows whether 3327 went from a Tempest to a Tempest T-37 in 1970.5.
It's kinda interesting how confusing the T-37/GT-37 thing is. I wonder how confusing it was in 1970? |

From Eric White's book:
The pic above says beginning Feb 70 the hardtop was available. The PHS for a 70 GT-37 still show it as a Tempest, while the 71's show it as a T-37.

Am curious about something, the reference to "721" just before tires in the GT option (WU2). The Firestone 721 Radial did not exist AFAIK in 1970, Firestone's first radial was the 500 which had many problems.
Anyone know what the 721 refers to ? ps Pontiac had a problem: the (G)T-37 was faster than the heavier GTO with the same engine. This was not to be allowed. |

There's a copy of the 1970 Pontiac Accessorizer brochure here: http://oldcarbrochures.org/United%20...zer/index.html It shows sales code 721 = dual exhaust.

Gee and here I thought that "T-37" meant Tempest style 37 (2 door hardtop).

Great picture B-man! Was that (is that) the original "T-37" decal under the Tempest emblem? Sure looks like it.

Everything was original other than a repaint on the passenger side fender and the nose piece.
The fellow I sold it to started this thread: https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=504009

Hi.....much appreciated again, but my main question is not being addressed.
I'm not trying to decipher GT-37s. What I'm trying to find out is whether the 3237 Tempest coupe for 1970 later became the Tempest T-37 when the 3337 hardtop was introduced. To Padgett: 721 is dual exhausts UPC N10. |

Diego, No, the (post coupe - 3327) coupe stayed Tempest...no T-37 badging until 1971 when PMD dropped the Tempest name.
