1970 grand prix gauge help
Who is a good source to restore my rally gauges and dash tach from my 1970 Grand prix? I thought I remembered that the Grand Prix gauges were back lit different than the GTO gauges? How is it different?

Yes GP gauges have a blue backlight filter and the same gauges in a GTO have a clear one. If you have a clear one you can make a blue filter, it is pretty much just a pale blue. Filter is used in the GP hood tach, dash gauge have the same color but I forget how.

ALL the dash and forward-mounted lamps on the 1969-70 GPs had the blue/green filter.
Hood tach, dash tach, clock, speedo, gauges and radio.
I'm remembering them to be a little more green in color, but our Grand Prixs have all had the batteries removed, so I can't just go turn on the lights and check. They used the 194-style push-in lamps with twist-in sockets in these locations. The filter was simply a really thin, tinted plastic 'bubble' that was inside the gauge pod containing the gauge. I don't know if they are reproduced, but there are plenty of old speedos and clocks and gas gauges out there that still have the filters inside. Good luck! |

Ive pulled 69 and 70 GP Rally Cluster gaugepods and the only difference i recall was a lower mount tab was angled.
