Default 66-67 Door Edge Guards

There were two versions of 66-67 Tempest series Door Edge Guards.
Both were made by ADELL, Detroit MI.

The more common short version and the long version, which went all the way to the bottom of the door.

The short version fastened on a Gulf Turquoise ‘67.

The long version being held onto my Cameo Ivory ‘66.

Interesting, can't say I've ever seen a "LONG" version.
Any idea of a part number?

Default Guards

I suspect the original design was the long and installers we’re damaging the outer door skin when drilling or screwing the bottom hole. The shorter version then replaced it and all of the screws go though without damage???

I've had at least 25 sets of these if not more. I've never seen the long version either.

Default Guards

When you look at the photos you can see the dilemma the poor Adell designer had. They wanted a full-length edge guard and all of the upper fasten points had a nice portion of the inner sheet metal to fasten to. However, down near the bottom of the door, the best sheet metal was further away ( hence the much longer tab). The area the tab would land is pretty shallow and I’ll bet enough doors were damaged to cause a redesign. If I owned an early ‘66, I’d love to have those!!

This isn’t the first pair I’ve had.
I found several in wrecking yards back in the early 80’s.

Just a thought.

The ‘67 GTO (which the design had already been determined in early 66) has a stainless trim that runs the width of the bottom of the doors which would impede with the long door edge guards.

Part numbers of both 66 and 67 guards.

Photos of the long ADELL guards.

Photo of the screw that fastens the ‘67 stainless door trim.
