Default my 70 project.

hey guys, just thought id post some pics of my 70 tube chassis project. the chassis is about 75% done. we are mounting the doors and the front clip for final fit in a week or so. Just got the wheels and tires. When we get everything fitted we need to pull the body back off, flip the chassis over and finish some of the bottom welds and finish cutting out some of the bracing in the body. Hope to have more pics with more progress for you guys soon! Hoping to weigh in around 2650 with me in it. Right now i have a 474 with a p/g for it, but i am trying to sell the 474 and go IAII. All the work is being done by Gebhardts Pro Cars in Jacksonville,IL

Here is what we started out with...

Here is where wa are at...

Grills were air brushed on yesterday with the rest of the car to be painted within a week. I've got a lot of stuff to buy similar to you. Hoping at minimum to have it at Norwalk this year. Wish the economy would pick up so I could sell some of my stuff rather than giving it away. Were you even old enough to drive in that first pic? Keep forgetting how young you are compared to the rest of us middle aged guys.

lol.. actually no. i was 15. we spent a year trying to find a palomino copper one like my dad used to have for a street car for me. we drove almost to canada and when we get there its not even the right gold. he told us the right code, but the plate said otherwise. Around the same time we found another grenada gold 455 ho car for sale in south bend. So we decided to build a racecar out of the first one, and keep the h.o. for a street car. It was rough, but all together. we went to put new 1/4s on it and paint it and i found that all the floor under the back seat was rotted and the whole back of the car was virtually held together with tigerhair. it became way more of a project than i could afford making 4 bucks an hour after school, so we sold it, and about a year later i ended up with the anaconda gold 72 lemans i have now for a street car.

im sure many of you will recognize this car.. this is wayne/mike lloyds old gto that gebhardts built back in 91. I was 9 years old and they were building my jr dragster when they built this car and i knew even way back then, i would have one someday. That car belonged to my dad back when it was in factory form and he sold it to the lloyds and they took it to gebhardts who turned it into the pro streeter you see there.

Think I have seen that car at the Street Machine Nats in DuQuoin. Possibly where that picture was taken?

Oh yeah, your project is looking good.

its very possible that was duquoin. That car was featured in HOTROD in 1992 and was top 10 of the year. It ended up getting bought and completely dismantled and reconstructed as a pro mod car.

Yeah, pic was definately DuQuoin, Ill at the Street Machine Nationals-the pond in the backround-I also remember that car from South Bend Nats too. 91-92 would seem right...I'll have to dig up the pics. I loved that car...Always wondered what happened to it. The tin work was awesome....Mike
