Default Hood to cowl seal and bumpers

Couple of questions:

1. Curious why there are only 2 bumpers (center and left side) for back part of hood to cowl and not 3. Anybody find 3 bumpers originally on their 68-69?

2. Is the hood to cowl rubber seal held on with weatherstrip adhesive and clips or clips only? Can’t remember if there was adhesive on my original seal rubber, but don’t think so. Can anyone confirm? I didn’t find the answer searching previous posts.

Never seen a 68 or 69 w/3 bumpers, 2 only. Clips only holding cowl weatherstrip. Don't see the "H" clip for cowl screen in your pic .

Thanks. What’s the H clip for cowl screen?

Interestingly, my parts car was a one owner (my father in-law) It had no clip on the cowl & never been apart. Or I lost it...... Could be the latter of the two.

But I still have the original cowl seal. 13 clips, no sealant at all. The clips are kind of odd, have a green color too. April build, Pontiac MI car.

Thanks for the link, very interesting read. I’ve never seen that H clip on my cowl. Either was never installed at Arlington plant on mine or was removed/lost during its first 20 years before I owned it. Also had an Arlington built hardtop parts car without the H clip.

Thanks ragtop! I don’t think my Arlington built car had those style original clips. Need to try to find the old cowl seal I removed and see what it had.

For what its worth, the assembly manual shows the same square clips, but who knows? Both My GTO & my parts car had the 67 style firewall wire clips but that book shows they should be the locking style used in 69. might be another one of those deals where they used what was in stock until it was gone. or this car got a 69 style clip if thats what it actually is.

Thats the Kind of thing gto4evr was talking about in that link. so many little variances in the cars that a 100% original car ends up being incorrect by whats adopted oner the years. Another thing that doesn't help is all of these parts that are being reproduced that are said to be correct and are not even close. I bought a 68 fan shroud kit & aside from the wrong type of bolt head (round recessed top) all it was is ten 5/16 -18 bolts with two spring clips. Both of my cars had 6 of those bolts holding down the metal shroud, then two much smaller course threaded bolts from the shroud into he top plastic shroud , & then 2 5/16 course thread holding the bottom of the plastic shroud into the core support with no spring clip. I think some parts being sold that way are slowly changing whats consider to be correct as well. OR, at least having an impact on it?

Dug out my original hood to cowl seal and bumpers. My clips from my Arlington built car are different than 68ragtop’s. Which I think was built at Pontiac plant.

Also included pic of profile of my original seal rubber (left) and repo (right). Repo very similar, slightly thinner, but should work fine.

Repo bumpers I have are pretty tall (1 1/8”). Hopefully they will compress enough.

My 69 Baltimore built GTO has two, one above the wiper motor and one above the horn relay.

My Arlington car has the clips shown above in kk68's post. Never saw the 'H' clip.
By the way, those repop bumpers are way too tall. I have a set I never installed but if/when I do, I will cut them down to size.

I went to compare my repop hood bumpers with the ones I had removed & they looked nearly identical. BUT....... then I saw the bags said convertible frame stoppers. I don't recall seeing those before, or ordering them. Pretty sure I ordered the hood bumpers & was hoping to compare them so that surprised me bit. Ames lists the hood bumpers as discontinued & notes just as Greg says. "Too tall & must be cut down"

2 bumpers only. Clips - I have both styles - more similar to kk68 with green coloring. Location of my bumpers on my 54K original car. See second bumper near pass wiper mount

The very same clip holding the rear light splash shield on 1970-72 Tempest/GTO.
