Any difference from 74/75 vs. 77 HEI. I can't remember what year GP HEI (74/75) I replaced my 70 400 points for. There is a 77 GP, 77 Safari Waggon, and 83 TA at junk yard with HEI's. Which would work best?

Tilster,
There is no significant difference in the '75 and '77 HEI. The springs, weights, and advance "cam" ramps may differ from year to year, but overall, '75 to '81 are pretty much the same. 1974 was an odd year for the Pontiac electronic ignitions, and the distributor was more like the early points distributors, but with the guts being of the unitized ignition type. The '83 "TA" will have a Ch*vy engine in it, and that distributor will not fit in a Pontiac engine. Good luck, K.

Thanks for the info. I just have a chance to pick up an extra one and wanted to know the difference. I figure the latest model would be the best for wear. I'll pull it later this week. Thanks Tilster |
