Default 63 to frame

Haven't posted in several years. Finally starting on my 63 gp again after life has been kicking me in the balls for the last several years.
Working on the underside. I have found a couple of spots on the frame right behind the front wheels. They are not blow through and can be repaired. I had a thought about trying something different that what I have normally done for repair and wanted to see if anyone here had tried it.
Since it is not all the way through I considered trying to clean off all the rust and build up the spot with a welder, them smooth it down. Anyone tried this approach?

Thx in advance for the input
Tom

on my 63 GP i had to pull the body . i welded in in a four foot long and four inches high steel to each side of the frame inside and outside on both sides of the frame.
