Seller now has links to pics as delivered but for some reason I can't see them. Are they the same pics that John Haley posted?
I just tried comparing all three cars (CR,custom green and ebay car) as much as possible; Ebay car CR originally, signs of green paint, custom sport steering wheel, remote mirror, pass. visor vanity mirror, pwr windows, pwr antenna, white(sandlewood?) custom interior. CR IDOJ car pwr antenna, white interior (custom?), remote mirror (maybe? Not quite clear enough to be 100%) Green IDOJ car Custom sport steering wheel, pwr windows, pwr antenna, remote mirror, white custom interior and visible in the pics John posted a pass. visor vanity mirror. And it's on mfg plates, so does that mean PMD was OK with the mods to their car? What does all of this mean? Similar/same options, is it isn't it? When did the seller first know about the IDOJ car? If he got told when he bought the car in the 70's that it was the IDOJ car that's one thing, but if he just linked it recently that's another. He should get the PHS to help answer any questions. I hope it is the car and someone saves it. Steve. |

Theres several things that don't make sense to me
The seller states he bought the car about 1977 and the car was in storage for 29 years that would mean the car was put in storage around 1980. But if you look at the plates on the car they say june of 1986 was the last time the plates had tabs. Also why would you have to re-register a title that's already in your name? If you lost it you should be able to get a duplicate title. Theres other things about the story of this car that dont add up thats how the show got the car. I talked to the person who gave the show the car for promotional purposes. What Barris did was add a body kit. It was not the show contacting Barris because they couldnt get a trans am. Before I bought this car I would ask for a "Certificate Of Authenticity" I think this seller is asking alot by just going off a photo |

I believe the auction ad has been pulled? I looked several times on ebay this morn and its gone. Was he feeling the heat because lack of paper trail, or does he know it really is not the IDOJ car? I predict he will not resurface with docs.

just looks like a private deal was struck outside of Ebay.
I , dont see enough evidence to nail this as "the car" or one of the fleet of cars used in the filming. |

MikeN., I did understand what you theorized. I am aware of the CR 'bird on the show.
I do agree that what you theorize could be true. I just doubted that they would have gone to the extreme of a total repaint. Nevertheless, I now see a couple spots of green on the car. And I also make note that the car as it appeared on IDOJ may NOT have been a factory Limelight Green, but perhaps another shade of Green. That would help support your theory. Anybody want to say for sure if the IDOJ car appeared in Limelight Green or in some non-standard color of green? It still should be pretty easy to doscument the color change progression and to be believable at all, would require a green coat being found over the original Carousel Red. John Haley, what more do you know about the IDOJ car? What more can be learned from the pix you have? Do you know where and when the pix were taken? |

MikeN. Can you correlate the episodes into a time line that will show transitions? Still wondering where the white 69 went? Maybe all the same car? CR,White,Green/white..

I could totally see them talking their original pnt code 72 car from the show .. sending it out and having it painted ... The color green doest look like an original color to me .. ... It really looks like someone bought the car and painted it like a 69 trans am ...

I don't have a timeline of the exact episodes, but I do know that once Roger Healy's Carousel Red Firebird disappeared, the green/white Firebird appeared. Now remember, there weren't very many episodes that were shot outdoors, or required a car for the storyline. The last time the IDOJ Pontiacs were really "featured" in any episode was the "disappearing house" episode, where the director purposely showed both the Carousel Red and the Mayfair Maize ragtops several times (looks like that episode aired in Feb 1969). After that, cars were rarely featured. Now could that be because Jim Wangers was already gone from Pontiac promotional duties in early 1969? This may be a possible theory as to why the studio would have sent the Carousel Red car out to be customized for future episodes. As for the total repaint, I can easily see the studio sending the car out to Barris to have the work done, and a color change happening. It wouldn't have a been a show car paint job, just something to look decent on the somewhat grainy 12"-19" TV screens of the day, a 20 footer.
For all we know, the director, or studio exec, may have had Barris customize their personal car (like a Corvette) for free, and for payment, the director or studio exec may have said they would show one of Barris's "customs" on the IDOJ show a few times. Remember, Barris was trying to sell those conversion kits. But who knows... I personally like the "Jeannie blinked it" theory the best.

The link to the "as delivered to the studio" pictures went from being broken to showing a message from the seller stating he was waiting for clearance from Barris to show the pics on ebay. Now it's broken again, did anyone see the Barris pics before the auction ended?
John Haley, looking forward to some big new piccies!! Maybe of the car in your garage perhaps? Jim Mattison must love it when cars like this pop up. Any guess on the number of times he has sent out info on this VIN? I wonder what his record is? |

to help promote sales of the 1969 trans am. Barris put the body kit on the car. I tried to contact Jim Wanger today but he's out of town until Aug 17th From talking to him in the past the car was originally green. And it was a true 1969 trans am that was never to be sold to the public |
