Mike Noun has a great website on the development of the 69 Trans Am. Here is a link to the car used in the Hot Rod pre release article.

It's info he took from another book almost word for word & he used their pics. And some of it is just his theory as he put it in his own words.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

rupp, what 'theory' do you see in this article? The information I provided came directly from the sources I listed on the last page of the article.

Default Silver 1969 trans am

Well I bought the silver car that I believe tobe the silver 1969 trans am. It was in simpsonville ky. owned by a guy who brought it from hollywood ca, in 1994.lots of interesting things follow this car like fender extractors, tach & stacked gauges,1 inch frt. sway bar and lots of options.Just still tryin to track some of its history from the hollywood ca area.before 1994. The guy I bought it from bought it in the san fernado valley area in 1994. The quest goes on

It was lordstown built 11/4/68.PHS has long list of options that include folddown rear seat,auto,safe-t-track 390 gear, disc brakes.deluxe interior etc.But the interesting thing for me are..PHS show "Display" and also 35-997 that I understand are engineering dept. destiation codes. The car came with ralley gauges & hood tach option but my car has stacked gauges & tach.So someone changed that as well as added the fender extractors and the 1 inch frt. sway bar.The trim tag paint code is palladium silver. On my PHS from Jim the note that is hand writen says "special price car" sold to Geo stephens for $1093.92 and $100 for handling the suggested retail was $4223.34 and the 1969 Hot Rod article says price for the TA was $4200. but the paper work was not created till 4/18/69 and shows ship date & execution date of 3/24/69.Hot Rod did the road test for march 1969 issue so that would have gone to press around Jan 69.This car no longer has the hood or the rear spoiler or the RA IV motor but everything else is there.Don't know for sure but just tryin to connect the dots.

I think I may have the spoiler for that silver car. The spoiler I have had for 25 to 30 years came to me with silver paint. There is no white or blue any where on it. I painted it black, but I am sure the silver is still under my black. I am going to check today.

Big Moe, you may have unearthed one of the most significant Trans Ams of all time. Now is the time to post some pics. Condition of the car doesn't matter, just that it even still exists is amazing.

Would like to see the PHS on this!

The silver car did not have a hood tach, but there is a possibility that this could still be the car used for those tests. The original car was built as a Firebird 400, and the hood was swapped out for the Trans Am hood, so the hood tach may have been discarded.

The DISPLAY code and ENG line definitely means it was prepped by Pontiac Engineering. It may be THE car they used to create the prototype, it may be a show car used on the show circuit, or it may be a press fleet car.

What number (4 digits) is next to the ENG line on the invoice?

Did you buy this recently or have you had it for a while?

Only asking cause it sounds like a car I saw in New Jersey back in 89.

The spoiler I have came from Hickory, North Carolina in about 1984, from a guy named Marty McDaniel. It was mostly silver but had other colors lightly sprayed here and there, reds. greens, as I recall. Just recently as I was making molds from my wing and the pedestals. I was sanding the pedestals and went through the black paint in a few places. There is no blue paint that I saw, as far as I can tell, the orig. paint on these pedestals is silver. I did not get a chance to look today, but I will get a look tomorrow.

About this same time period that I got my wing. I was also offered what a guy was telling me was an orig. 69 trans am hood , it was fiberglass, said it had a gm part # sticker on the underside. The guy also knew 69 T/A hoods were metal. This hood was in California. I passed on the deal, thinking I was going to get ripped off.

That will be very cool to see!

I have read post on here saying there was never a 1969 trans am that came from lordstown. What's the sudden change of thinking?
