Default Silver 1969 trans am

It was not built as Trans Am. Its was ordered as a 400 firebird then delivered to Pontiac engineering and styling dept. used as a prototype\development\test car.All the TA parts where installed here, hood, rear spoiler,RAIV motor, dash w\tach & staced gauges and 1 inch frt.sway bar and not sure what else.My other 69 TA had "trans am" option on the PHS as well as tach & stacked gauges an RA III speed.

Thanks, Big Moe I was confused. I think beyond the PHS.

Without those documented things that the engineering dept would have installed can get sketchy..I can see why you are on a seek for answers mission quest.

Same invoice discussed last year. I don't believe the car exists anymore, just the invoice floating around. Photos never surfaced.

Are there any notations on the car itself, like handwritten numbers on the inside of the door trim panels, etc?

Work at the GM Design Studio was driven and documented by what is called a "Shop Order". We are finding that many studio cars will have "SO" and then a number written in various locations on the car. This of course would correspond back to the work orders spelling out the exact changes to be done.

Some researchers (not me personally, unfortunately) have had some success with finding the original Studio shop work orders at GM and using them to document their cars. I can think of at least two Harley Earl Corvettes and a Bunkie Knudsen car where this had been done.

I've tried it for one '66 Grand Prix, believed to be a styling car, but was not successful.

Here's a link to the kind of thing I am talking about. With all of the turmoil and retirements in GM in the last couple years it is getting very difficult to access this information.

Keith I still have the build sheet to a car I stupidly parted out,and later found the build sheet in the rear seat springs.
I ll pull it out later to refresh my failing memory ,but it said something like prep for San Fransisco auto show Jan 20 67
It was a red 400 and from memory body # was 000033.
Is there any other info I should relate to on this?

I did a google search, he is still out there. I'll try to call him.

What my pics above show, The first two pedestal pic's show black paint picked/flaked off, under that a bright silver, under that 69 T/A blue( it is a very small chip showing). The next two are the bottoms of the wing ends. I thought if any silver paint was left it would be under there, were most people wouldn't bother to strip or prep very well before a repaint. So I sanded away the grey primer I had recently put on that area while prepping to make a mold from it. Sanded through my black paint , through the grey primer under it and next was a bright silver and under that a red-brown primer, then just the surface of the wing and no more paint. I sanded on top and the bottom of my wing. I could not find any silver or white on these surfaces. I think I may have stripped the wing before I painted it black, except for under the wing ends where there is still the silver.

My opinion is that this is the silver proto type 1969 Trans Am, it has all the right options and some paper work that points in the right direction.
