Things like this is why the last 4 sets of headers were custom built on the car,EVERYTHING fits and clears! For a street car IMO,I would never do headers again if a good set of exhaust manifolds were avail.Race car yes for sure, street no so much.Tom

The old Chevy 235 6 cyl. used this bypass type of filter with no full flow filter at all. Just stick a roll of toilet paper in there and go.

what kind of headers are you guys running that a standard filter wont fit? or is it the vehicle that causes the issues?
i have never had a probem getting the filter in & out on many different headers on 2nd gen firbirds. i have hedman 28150 on a 78 ta & big hooker super comp 2" round ports on a 72 firebird & use the standard size filters. also had the standard hooker d-port comps on an old 78 t/a i owned in the 90's & 3 tubes of unknown brands. you have to angle it between the tubes carefully but they fit no problem. i use a ziplock bag wrapped around the filter when removing to catch any oil that spills out. |

I also use the HP-2006. Not only does it fit, but it has a hex nut on the bottom so you can take it on or off with a regular socket or wrench.

Is this a 4 speed car? If so, trim the bell housing for clearance. You can do it with the engine in the car. It just takes a little and then you can get a full size filter in there. I've done 4 or 5 this way. I'd rather do that than go smaller on the filter.

Is the AC Delco PF61E not a good alternative? According to them it's better that the previous edition.

slim oil filters
I have used the NAPA Gold #1522s and now using the AC PF61. Same narrow size. Good deals to be had on the ACs at Rockauto.
