I will just mention once more please make the repair to the fuseable link wire PROPERLY. Use the correct fuse link wire and install it properly. I have had 2 friends "wire around" fuseable links in GM cars and had devastating engine fires that ruined the cars. One that was lost was a real W30 Indy Pace Car from 1971. The car was a total loss along with his garage. The fusable link was there for a reason and did it's job when the HEI wire grounded to the dipstick tube. With solid wire and no other fuse in the circuit, you would have had additional damage.

Yes, I know. The splice was from the connecter that I wanted so I could plug it into the distributor. It HAS twelve volts from a source that was verifiable chosen.

We probably need more information. Are there fusible links in the wiring harness?
You had to lose main ignition power. The first place I would look is at the switch. I had one go out years ago and the same thing happened. I was driving along minding my own business and it just quit. When I pulled the switch out I could smell the burned contacts. New switch fixed the problem.

Is it kosher to use a fuse instead of a fusible link?

I'd probably use something like this circuit breaker?

Fastronix 40A 12V Type 1 Automatic Reset Circuit Breaker with Cover

Used to use something like these on semi-trailer wiring.
(way back before dirt)
