Who here knows Ram Air Vs?
Some guy on the Mopar board keeps on calling SD 455 cars "tunnel ports." I told him they are "round ports" and TPs are RAVs. Anyone have pics side by side or offer any evidence on the differences? I lent out my McCarthy book so I cannot refer to that.

Thanks, but it's not worth so much effort - just trivia.
This guy claims he and his bro have owned 40 Ponchos but calls the SD 455 "tunnel port." This is a first for me because I know the TP is a RAV. He seems to think that all round-port Ponchos are TPs. |

Here are intake port mold comparisons.
The large one is a V. The middle is a ported round port Edelbrock head to about the size of the 455SD intake. One is a D port stock intake.

Top is RA V exhaust ports
Middle is is Round Port (RA II, RA IV, SD-455) Bottom is standard D-port (most Pontiacs) RA V intake ports (tunnel port)

Just saw the Mopar thread. Lots of errors in some of their posts, but I think it's calmed down. Someone stated the RAVI was available (must have been a typo, he meant RAIV), and he erroneously stated that round port heads were available on 1967 Pontiacs instead of 1968's.

Always wondered...
How are those pushrod tubes through the middle of the RAV intake held in place? Press fit, epoxy, or....?

Press fit.
(and possibly epoxy to make sure it was sealed tight?)

HOW could someone mistake the RA V for the 455SD? They're apples and oranges.

Fairly sure the term Tunnel Port originated from FE Ford's anyway. Didn't Pontiac model them for their RA V heads ?
