Here are a couple of mine. The 1:24 Firebird is a Danbury Mint 40th anniversary issue that started life as a coupe. It also got an interior color change to black. The 1:64 'bird is a Johnny Lightning.
The Solstice is a 1:16 that also got an interior color change to black.

'68s always get overlooked for '69s, and green ones even more so. I was happy when this one came out a few years ago. Limited run from AutoWorld that went quick!

For you all that had your cars used as the template for the die cast - I always thought having your car in a magazine was the highest achievement, but being the basis for a die cast is a notch above!

This is my actual car on the insert card used by Johnny Lightning.

The payment was a box of 12 of them shipped to my front door.

fun discussion.

I have always on some level or another had a small hotwheels collection, it all started with my childhood 'Hotbird' and a '63 Split window Corvette...
The trouble with Hotwheels, is that they are just a little bit too easy to collect - I started selling off my extras at the odd garage sale, and brought a bunch of them to add to my swap meet booth I did a couple years back.
This is my "Firebird board":

When I was in my twenties I collected die cast cars, but stopped collecting them probably fifteen years ago - I stopped when I got to fifteen different ones covering all the generations of the Firebird, and have a couple GTO's, and other ones I liked...

Until recently though 70-73 Formula models were few and far between;
Johnny Lightening did a couple, but never the right colour and always with a rear spoiler and aftermarket (looking at least) wheels - none are on that Hotwheels board because of the huge packaging size.

Recently Matchbox released a "'71 FIREBIRD FORMULA", and one of the most recent releases of that casting was a darker orange;
The only problem with this casting is that all but the first year releases had a hood bird tampo, or other tampos in addition to the hood bird;
I did last year buy a couple or the "orange" Formulas off eBay (I could never find them locally)

I also have bought a couple of the dealer promo models, the first was a brown 71 Formula, then a red 73 Formula;
This past year I bought a 70 brown Formula, then bought a second one which was quite damaged, with the intent of refinishing it as my car.

Hard to find 72 Formula model. Had to buy assembled (poorly). Sourced a resin flat hood off ebay. Have correct high back seats to use. Have mirrors. Need to get a spoiler for back. Have no idea how to replicate a vinyl top to make it silver and black on rebuild.

Use masking tape as vinyl.

Michaels crafts or any craft store has all kinds if colored and textured rolls of electrical tapes, or duct tapes made for crafting.

I have a 1972 Formula promo. Unfortunately someone in the past sanded some of the paint off, but otherwise it's in generally pretty good condition.

the dealer promos were molded in colour;
it looks like that one was at one time painted grey.
iirc one of the 1972 models was molded in a pale yellow - my guess is that's one of them.

The dealer promo kits are essentially simplified versions of the retail 1:25 scale kits with the hoods molded shut, and the subframe opening (for the engine) molded closed.

If you can ignore the model year differences, the left is a dealer promo, and the right is a retail kit:

Also worth noting:
MPC/AMT kits were 1:25
Monogram/Revel kits were 1:24 (slightly larger)
Most die cast are 1:18

When aqquiring molded parts to customize, it might look like a small scale difference but it can make a big difference.

20+ years ago while living in Reno NV. I had a '67 Firebird convertible. It was red on red with a white top and white HO stripes. One day I was hanging out at a buddys place who lived in a trailer park. We're hanging out burning one and hear a knock at the door. There is a guy at the door holding up a die cast car in a package that was an exact twin to my car. He said he just bought it at Walmart and saw mine parked as he was going back home. Needless to say.... me and my buddy made a beeline to Walmart and picked up a couple.
