If you do not want to spend a lot on a Pace 166, there was another Pace model from the period that will fool many..they will be cheap, but are somewhat hard to find..

Thank you! Mine is film correct down to the tires, shaker callouts, and full 1976 interior/tach. I would love to add the 10-4U scanner, but it will just not work with the 4 speed.

77C - that is a great suggestion! I see it on E-Bay for $20 +$13 to ship, prob non functional, but don't really care since a prop is fine. There also is a Pace166 at $625, but geez, worth 19x the 8025 model which looks "just like" the 166? That is a whole lot of Beer money...

I'm glad you were able to get that. The 166 up to a year ago consistently sold for $150 in nice condition. Recently, they have gone nuts. The 10-4u scanners have always been crazy for as long as I have been in the hobby.

I bought the 8025, that will work just fine with a little reconditioning.
So now I need a antenna like the the MR276, but since my CB is a prop, I am going to search for one similar and which is magnetic, so I don't have to drill a hole in the roof.
Burt's Hat is a little more elusive, it seems there are a number of styles he wore out there. Web says "The RCA was the style chosen by Manny Gammage, for Burt Reynolds, as Bandit, in the cult classic "Smokey and the Bandit" and the sequels. This puppy sells for $600 to $900 from Texas Hatters!
Then there is this one on E-Bay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133400102389
So like the CB clone, I am first gonna surf for something similar before throwing my Pension at it.

Here is what I would do at the moment:

Purchase this AS K46 replacement coil:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/16412591079...IAAOSwOfFebqWk

Then use that with the Hustler antenna. It will look totally authentic.

https://www.wearecb.com/ic20-b.html

I'm sure you can find a strong enough magnet to hold it to the car for static display only.

I paid $500 for the hat 3 years ago. The Stetson I bought is exact in every way to the hat Burt wore in the first movie, including the metal band.

Again 77C - you the man.
Will run your antenna suggestion down and buy the parts, but not familiar on how a non magnetic CB antenna mounts as I have never done it (remove headliner, and some washer/large nut set-up), or what the interface is at the base of the antenna that would allow me to engineer and adapt a magnetic base to this antenna. Not asking anyone to do all the work here for me, just soliciting experience before I buy something and/or drill a hole in my roof. (Maybe a pic as reference if the antenna bases are pretty much common?)
As for the Hat - I am no stranger to the cost of the real deal when it comes to originality, if you want it bad enough, you will pay for it. Will ponder on the hat for awhile. And - The risk of hanging the real hat on the antenna at car shows and walking off to look at other cars or take a leak, then some idiot stealing it may not be a wise investment. I've seen it all, from people's hand prints all over the car, to leaning in the car, to fiddling with parts/dials/controls, to outright sitting in it.

The scanner ended up in my police car replica. The police car used the CB-145 which is pictured below the CB-166.

way cool.
I got a Email into CB World -
"I have a Trans Am Bandit car, and want a antenna like the one used in the movie. It is a prop, and does not have to be functional. Will the MR276 antenna (Trans Am Bandit replica) come back into stock any time soon? And, is there a way to adapt it to a magnetic mount so I don't drill my roof. Or, I could buy a IC20-B - Hustler 44" Roof/Deck Mount CB Antenna With Spring, and to get the Bandit look buy a NOS Vintage Antenna Specialists K-46 Low Band Replacement Load Coil 30-36 MHz, but can that be adapted to a magnetic mount?"

Here is an update for anyone that wants to replicate the Antenna used in the movie, and not drill a hole in their roof. Note that 77 Canamman's input in the thread will get you to a excellent permanent mount clone, but I do not want to drill my roof. CB word was useless in providing any info on interfacing the AS IC20-B Hustler Antenna to a Magnet Mount, so I did some research on how this may be achieved.

The "correct" MR276 is not available except maybe E-Bay or a private seller at over $175, and there are other options. CB World says they prob will not be in stock again.

1. Buy a AS K46 replacement coil off EBay, $15 and change.

2. Buy the IC20-B - Hustler 44" Roof/Deck Mount CB Antenna With Spring from CB World. Replace the Black or White Coil with the AS K46 Grey one. $63 or so for this Antenna from CB World, best price out there..

3. For a drilled hole permanent mount, install per provided Antenna directions.

4. For a magnet mount (what I want to do) buy from Amazon this or similar -
"Retevis Magnetic Antenna Mount Base, Mobile Radio Antenna Magnet Mount with 5M Coaxial Cable,PL-259/UHF Female Connector,110mm Diameter Magnetic Base for CB Radio Car Bus Mobile Transceiver(1 Pack)". 17$. Unfortunately, you only need the spring and whip from the IC20-B Antenna, and I think the AS K46 coil screws directly to the Magnetic Base which has the Male SO-239 5/8" connection. Given this, it would be nice to buy JUST the correct MR276 Barrel Spring and Whip, but not sure where to find the exact looking Spring. So this set-up will look close to the real thing, have the correct Gray Coil, but have a removeable black magnetic base.

So all in either $78 for a permanent mount, or less that $100 for a Magnet Mount.

I will probably not even run the cable into the car, just cut it off and cap the cable end so it looks like the cable runs thru the roof.
My Pace 8025 CB and Antenna are non functional props, but look damn close to the period correct items.
I have the 8 track option in my 4sp car that I def I want to keep, so I need to figure out where to mount the CB, on the driver or passenger side, and the mike.

Cool

Here is a continuity error from the film:

Now there are two things going on here. You can see where the alternate mounting of the CB/scanner is in this car, and that the passengers T-Top is in place, while the drivers side is not.

When this film was produced, it was never thought to do anywhere as well as it did, and therefore, all of the scrutiny by enthusiasts like myself was never expected. Attention to detail was lacking with all of the continuity errors.

yeah - looks like the cb/scanner is mounted in the drivers footwell, so that could work for me. Something I recognized under closer scrutiny is the MR276 (and your antenna) uses a BARREL style spring, unlike the Hustler IC20-B.
Given that, if I knew what barrel spring and whip (and what length) I could buy, I wouldn't even need the IC20-B....

If you would, you said you have (2) Whips, so you must have purchased another one? So would you have the part #, type, etc? Then I could match it to a Barrel Spring and forgo the IC20-B.
So I could maybe screw the coil onto the magnetic base, screw the barrel spring onto the top of the coil, and screw the whip to the Barrel Spring.

Us crazy retirees got nothing better to do in the winter, and it is snowing like crazy here in Michigan at the moment....

I only bought one 276 antenna. The other antenna I modified I had laying around. You will still need the chrome base part under the grey coil. The small chrome barrel spring should be an easy find.

"You will still need the chrome base part under the grey coil. The small chrome barrel spring should be an easy find."

The IC-20B chrome base part under the Grey Coil will not be needed to adapt to the Magnetic Mount as the Grey coil will screw directly on the male S0-239 interface of the Magnetic mount. Or so I think.
Therefore, what I really need is to know how the MR276 WHIP attaches to the Barrel Spring, like 3/8-16 male thread, or set screw, or such. And the length?
Tough to tell from the attached pic, and/or your car pics.

Like these parts in the attached. Looks like coupling parts (threaded rod?) that maybe attach the barrel spring to the coil, and the whip to the barrel spring. The barrel spring style looks like female connections at both ends?
