The reverse lights are not that circuit regardless. The reverse light circuit is a 2 pin connector with a pink/blk stripe and a green wire in the harness close to the take off to the downshift wires. The connector is located on top of the column very close to the firewall. The switch is visible looking in that location. If you simply use a jumper to connect those 2 wires together, the reverse lights should work with the key on.

Because the trans has been now switched to a 4spd. The proper reverse linkage must be acquired to spin the column to activate the switch.
yes the P.O did all the work ,seems like all the linkage is there and the switch on the column is there . maybe i need to check if it is all connected correctly
is there any switch that goes on the tranny

On an original M22 4spd car there is a switch on the trans but that is for the TCS system, completely unrelated to your issue. The only switch involved in your back up lights is the switch at the base of the column near the firewall on the top side. Unplug the switch and connect the 2 wires together with a jumper. Your reverse lights should be on with the key on. Do the obvious checks, like your fuses. confirm that you have 12v on both sides of the connector once it's jumped. If so, check for power at your reverse lights.
