Default Correct Alternator part number

I have tried searching, can't seem to find it. Can anyone tell me the correct part number for a 79 W72 Alternator?

Here is nos I have, , its, a 63 amp, ac, as rear defog, or w72,
1102485, the one on stick, non ac, a 42 amp,
1102486, another used 61 amp, ac or rear defrost

I guess, any of these 3 #s were used, depending on options

I would say, wrong, those 3 numbers, I listed, are it, according to books I've read.
You may have a 78, could be another gm model

78K05 is the date code Oct. 5th, 1978. 1102908 is a Corvette alternator.

Sorry to dig this up, but it was the only post that came up. I have that exact same alternator number that came off a 1979 W72 engine. Same number 1102908 and similar date range. I checked a friend with a W72 TATA as well, it has the same number. Did the last 400's just start getting standardized alternators or something?

Are these alternators original or replacements?

Thank you for pointing out there may be an error in what I've reported. I found the MVMA's for the 1979 Corvette and Firebird's and don't know what document I used to report what I did 7-8 years ago. I hope this helps...

Cool, it sure does. The alternator for the corvette certainly does NOT appear to be 1102908 based on your documentation, and low and behold, under the information for the Pontiac line, under equipped with A/C, the alternator number is 1102908. So, this does appear to be the correct alternator for a 1979 400 W72 engine.

Yep, it looks good:

1st digit = year
Letter = month
Last two digits = day

7M19 = Very late 1977 alternator, original for a 1978 T/A!

7 = 1977
M = December (They didn't use "i" to avoid confusion)
19 = 19th

Did some research a couple years back and the number I found for a 1979 W72 is a 63a unit, part number 1105360. Will have to go back and check source…

So, my 1978 W72 alternator is 1102486-61A. Guess the 63A is for more accessories?? Mine just has air conditioner, no power windows or rear defrost.

I posted the 1978 MVMA sheet on the thread you posted on in the past.
