Are most of you just threading this hole in the head and then screwing in a fitting of some sort, or going back with the press in style? I tried doing a search for the 90 degree 301 fitting people mention, but haven't had any luck finding it. Pretty much only see the $30 press in one that is carried by several different vendors.

That’s a hell of a expensive tap these days if you plan on threading that hole for a pipe plug!

How is this on aluminium heads? Just install threaded fitting or can one buy this unit with threads?

The water jacket on an iron head is close to the area you would be threading and it would take a custom tap since the regular tap would bottom out inside the head before you had a good start on it.

Edelbrock furnishes steel pipe plugs to eliminate the heater fitting if desired, and also supplies a 1" threaded brass nipple for 5/8" hose. It is up to the end user to install a flow limiter in the nipple if desired.

I bought one of these from Butler and I am going to drill out the threads on my Edelbrock heads and then tap in the fitting.

If you are still going to use the heater core I would still do the restrictor mod in the feed line to the heater core. The "warm up" function of that head part still does nothing to protect the heater core if the engine sees a slug of water (due to a WOT Mode) by the engine.
