Default Open headers with collectors vs Headers and X pipe and no mufflers

For anyone who has ran at the dragstrip or or at the dyno. Has anyone ran open headers and extensions vs headers and a x piipe and no mufflers.
In the never ending need for hp I'm planning on trying both at the dragstrip..this will aid with the final (maybe) exhaust setup and position of cutouts.

I’ll be interested to see what your testing shows . I predict there won’t me much difference but just a guess on my part.

Are you gonna do back to back testing? Hard part is even through the day a car can get faster or slower heat soak wind changes, temperature. Lots of variables. Which makes small changes in ET hard to attach to a certain change. Almost need to make the change the. Make the change back to be sure .

What type and size pipe are you going to run? If you run a 3" mandrel bent pipe you will have to have a car that makes very repeatable runs to see a difference.

3 inch
With good track prep I'm within a few hundred each run..I'm really after anything noticeable..
If the theory behind x pipes is valid the x pipe with no muffler should be quickest compared to header extensions.. I will also factor in weight
My first time out with open headers and extensions was fun..but is it quicker then an x pipe? Or how much slower with mufflers?

My 78 TA with the old roller motor ran the same in the 1/8 with open headers not exhaust system weight as it did with 3"X into 3" Ultraflows and Torque tech 3" tailpipes. 6.90s @99-100 in good air even with the extra weight. Southern Nationals was at an 1/8 mile track that year.

Thanks Skip..I know I'd sooner run full exhaust at the track and be the quiet car that surprises the other car.

Yes, we run electric cutouts on about every car here.

Some are configured differently so results change. Some of them I have the cutouts about 18-20 inches back from the header collectors and some of them I have the cutouts after the X-pipe, such as how Pypes configures their system.

These systems also vary from 2 1/2" mandrel bent, to 3" mandrel bent, and one is 3 1/2" off the headers to a Dr. Gas X that exits with 3".

Almost every car here uses Dynomax Ultraflows with a couple exceptions being Pypes Race Pro (which is basically the same thing) or in Dad's case a race style muffler with nothing inside of it. Cutouts have been worth a pinch of ET, mainly MPH.

Heading to the chassis dyno in about a month with 2 of the cars and plan to test with and without cutouts open just to get an actual measured number.

Thanks, be sure to post the results.
I find it interesting to always see the results first hand.

I may start a new post about it. Even though the dragstrip they have proved beneficial it's always in question for one reason or another even though the passes are made back to back and the cars are pretty consistent.

So I figure a chassis dyno leaves no doubt, I can run back to back, flip the switch and not even shut the car off, make another run, compare the dyno sheets.

Awesome, I'm at 6.8/6.9's..So be interesting..did you have extensions? Or were the Purple Hornies attached to the headers?
