68 vert a-pillar to vent window seal
I have a 68 vert and I am replacing the a pillar seal that seals the vent window when you close the door. The old seal was very brittle and fell apart. The original seal looked like simple foam glued to the chrome channel on the a-pillar.
I see the catalogs showing "68-69" a pillar seal as a molded rubber piece, I believe this is incorrect for the 68 vert. Has anyone replaced this foam seal and if you have what thickness did you use? Thanks all in advance. |

I think 68 uses a 1 year seal
the pillar pad is even 1 year too its narrower than the 69 up to aCCEPT the wing window frame when shut the stainless chrome channel is 68 only also ,,,, no blow out clip and notched different at the bottom edge the shape of the face of the 68 seal is unique to fit the wing frame.. |

The '68 GTO and all other GM A Bodies was the last year for a Triangular "Vent Window" that has a smaller window crank. The Vent window assembly can be fully adjusted up, down and tilted in or out. The Chrome vent window frame for the Convertible fits into the pillar weather strip to make the seal when the door is closed. The Vent Window assembly is identical for the Coupe and Convertible.
The '68 is a year that stands alone for many parts even though there are many parts that work for multiple years including the '68. The Vent Window assembly is a '68 only part. Unless told otherwise by a '68 Convertible owner, I believe that the weatherstripping offered by AMES, NPD and OPG replicate the originals. Prices range from $59 to $99 for a pair. |

Thank you all for the information! I have located the 68 a-pillar vert seals on both AMES and NPD. I think i will go with AMES.

A good thing about having a 68 is that the repro weatherstrip will work well unlike the 69-72 version. They are all WAY too stiff but the 68 doesn’t come into contact with the window like the 69-72 does. Those cars have a lot of issues with window movement, especially with power windows.

Thanks rasilverbird for the yearone link, however that link/part you posted is the seal between the vent window and door glass. I was looking for the a-pillar seal. I found the correct 68 seal with help from the other members. Thank you all again! My 68 convertible was taken apart ~14 years ago so i am sure i will have many more questions. LOL!
