Default Fiberglass spoiler question

I have a rear spoiler for my 69’ GTO and you can feel a wave across the top of it. I put a straight edge on it and I have approximately 1/16” dip in between the internal ribs. I feel you will see this horribly if painted. The question is can I use regular bonds skim coated and sanded or should I do something else. Any assistance is appreciated.

You might get more responses in the Judge section as the spoiler was never offered on regular 69 GTO’s. The issue you mention is a common problem on spoilers. Given how much fiberglass expands and shrinks I’d have a fiberglass guy fix it rather than use any kind of body filler designed for metal panels.

That’s what I was thinking maybe using a fiberglass resin to even it out

I'm pretty sure it's made of SMC, not fiberglass. Use Evercoat "Vette Fill and Adhesive" to fill the area. Make sure the label states fiberglass and SMC. Remove paint down to the bare substrate and apply the filler. You use this just like regular body filler, except this is designed specifically for SMC anf fiberglass only. When you sand bare SMC you will need a SMC compatible primer. It can be built up quite thick if needed. It will not work on steel.

You're welcome. Forgot to mention, as long as it is an original spoiler.
