Default Water heater stops delivering.

This is an odd one. The hot water when turned on is fine for half a second and then slows to a trickle. It's happened once before and I drained a lot of water out of the tank and at first it didn't help, but very soon after it worked again.
It's flirted with doing it again and this morning it has slowed to a trickle again. Any suggestions?

Your cold water pressure is fine?

Is this the same situation at every water faucet in the house?

Initial guess is your water heater is filled with sediment after years of use. How old is it?

individual knobs or one to control hot and cold? I have a single knob and had issues with hotwater flow and it was the valve directly behind the handle. Cant recall the exact name of the part but it divided the hot a cold water.

Thanks. I'm thinking it's in the isolation valve or sediment.

Cold water pressure is fine. Every hot water facet is the same. When this first happened I started taking the shut off valve apart (on cold water to heater supply line) and got hung up, put it back together and drained some of the water from the heater. It was sluggish at first and then worked again.

I don't know how old. We've been here since '06 and it had probably been here for several years prior.

Probably want to try to drain the tank. I found this for a quick how to.

Okay, I just went down and hammered in the isolation valve and load side of the outlet from it (the valve from cold water supply to the heater) and everything is working again. I think I've got some blockage in that valve?

You got a sediment problem Doug. Drain it and clean it out. Sounds like you need a water softner seeing you keep on having problems.
