Thanks for all the help guys.
Yeah,I'm going to see if I can find somebody to look at the place. It's just kind of tough as on how I'm at the other end of the state. My wife's step dad is a contractor who lives about an hour away from this house, but he's not always willing to help us out with anything,so I'll see.

That's the kind of house I've always wanted to own. Even better that some idiot didn't decide to "modernize" it either.

agree with others here
go slow and get some jacks and do yourself.
Be sure and get a PE to look and write a summary for the bank
offer much less and negotiate ,you can always go up
water level is cheap and easy to use on checking.
you may have to just jack until it looks good and stop
it may not have been plumb level and square from day one.

a string will tell if the bottom of beams are straight too.
looks like what was in the basement was a weight bearing wall that was removed.

Since there seems to be a few old house fans here, check it out. I think you'll see why I am trying to buy my home 2 years before I can move,I don't think I'll find another one like this at this price-

View of property from far edge of the lot,you can see the extra 3 car garage on the left.

3 1/2 car garage and shed

inside of 3 1/3 car garage

Kitchen

Eat in area of kitchen. This is the addition on the back of the house,so no original woodwork in this room.

Chimney probably needs to be pointed up or rebuilt above the roof line - looks like creosote is leaking out of it or soot from a furnace.

Other than that - you suck! Nice find, buy it, fix it, & enjoy it!

Thanks,but I didn't get it yet!
Price was just dropped over the weekend to 74K,according to my realtor info.
I'm just trying to work out the financing with a relative. If it's a go with my "bank",I'll be hiring a few guys to check out the issues I've found.
Thanks again guys.

67, Beautiful house. I am jealous of all that fine old craftsmanship!! I was bird-dogging a "car house" in a neighborhood I wanted to move into for 6 years.....it got bought out from under me in 2006. In 2012, I was not ready to buy anything, but the same house came up for sale again in a short sale. I had only one chance, took it, and got the place for less than half of what it was priced at in '06. I had to scramble, but it was totally worth it. Now all the cars are inside, and I have my lift. I say follow your gut and GO FOR IT. The time to buy is now....property won't be getting any cheaper.

Beautiful house. Nothing even close to that around here.
This. No way I would buy it without a professional contractor signing off on it.

Default House

Wow, does that bring back memories!!! I grew up in what looks like the exact home but had a brick exterior. Same front/back porches, walnut pocket doors, woodwork, etc. I'll bet I'd recognize the unique smell of the attic. Our home was built in 1890 and had a gravity coal furnace in it until 1970. In the attic was a reservoir for kerosene that was connected to fixtures throughout the house. It was wired at some point but I think it was built without electricity.

Ok, the big question. Does the neighbor own a GTO that needs work?

Nice home Drake and your growing family Im sure will be very happy in it. Wish the best bro and look forward in hearing more. My house was built in 1929 however its a log cabin and built totally different then that stick built. Hope that structural engineer has some god news.

Thanks guys. Yeah,it looks like a go so far. I should be submitting my offer tomorrow.
I got a local engineer lined up to go check it out.
No next door neighbor with a GTO Brian. Looks they they have a few boats though.
Actually the guy who I bought my GTO from only lives about 10 miles from the new house. I don't think there are too many old Pontiacs around that part of the state. Lots of cows, horses, cheese, and tractors though.

Nice looking old house, huge plus with the garage and shed. Im from a town where old real estate is cheap population of 15,000. If you go up the road 8 miles to a small town of 800 the same type houses go for 50% more. You have a big plus here with what looks like a nice sized yard, no close neighbors. Id say its great deal unless the leveling problem is a major structural problem that costs a ton of money its a great deal. Remember too you are looking at it at the worst time of the year. Just imagine it in summer when trees and grass are green. You have a lot of room to work with on this house as its appraised way higher than you can get it for. Hope it all checks out well and you get it.
