I am not aware of a 389 HO. In '64 the cam was the same for both the four-barrel and the tri-power. I don't remember the number but it was similar to and replaced by the 067 in 1965. In 1965 and 1966 the automatic tri-power cars all had 067's, and the stick tri-power cars had 068's. The 744 came out with the 400 HO in 1967, with a Quadrajet.

Just a little clairfication/exounding. Pontiac gave their cams a part number, the last three numbers we use as the designation (068, 067, etc). They stamped a letter on the cam to help identify them. That said, the part numbers for the early/miiddle GTOs was:
'64 (all) 534009, same as 63/64 non HO 421's stamped C '65-'66 Tri-power (except XS - Ram Air) 9779068, stamped S '65-'66 4-barrel 9779067, stamped P '66-68 Manual Ram Air/HO 9785744, Stamped H '67 Auto non-HO or R/A 9779066, Stamped N '67-'68 Manual non-HO or R/A 9779067 stamped P '67-'68 Auto R/A 9779068 stamped S This leaves the question, what did '66 R/A Autos (XS engine) get? I assume it was aslo the 744 [This message has been edited by Ed Neasham (edited 01-15-2000).] |
