Global West Control Arms
Hi: Anyone care to share experience with Global West control arms. I'm looking at the TLC79 series for Race. Also looking at the Viking coil over Double adjustable shocks GWSV-102-400
Was also looking at the CTA-79 but were told more suited for street. OR, if you purchased a different manufactured and your thoughts on them is welcome. Thanks

Running the exact same arms and they have been great so far after about 30 runs. Went on without a problem and alignment shop had no issue aligning the front end. running calvert 90-10 shocks and landrum springs. Front end comes up quick and stays up. perfect so far for an 11 flat car. Vikings will be my next upgrade as well. Think they'll come in handy to control front end some as you put down more power.
TRZ was my other option for control arms but am happy with the global west. They did take about 4 months to get to me in 2021 but customer service was great when I called |

I have Drag Global uppers on my Camaro/IA and they have a fair amount of negative camber in them and a lot of positive caster. Caster makes it pretty tough er with manual steering in the staging lanes.

I have had Global West Arms on my 64 GTO for many years.
Never had an issue with them. Did have to find the right combination of tie-rod ends to match up with the rest of the steering linkage. Doug N is a really good guy. Tom V.

Thanks Skip. Did you do the coil overs also? If so curious on springs. Poundage?

I went with Classic Performance Products (CPP) tubular uppers and lowers. I had planned on going with TRZ arms initially but I plan on street driving and my chassis guy suggested something a bit more robust. I’m also adding CPP Hydra-Stop brakes with Wilwood master, Borgeson steering Box, remote power steering (to clear the turbo manifolds), and 4 wheel Aerospace discs. I haven’t purchased shocks/coil overs/springs yet so this thread is of interest.

Hi James: I sent some info on the car to Viking rep and was advised for what we are doing to go with the 450 pound springs. On the street they may recommend a bit more. not sure. It is my understanding that the spring pound is base on intended use and the weight of the front end.

I have 6 cylinder Camaro/Firebird springs. Dual adjustable QA1s on front. But since I have yet to spin I have not tweaked them any-I have a slow 60 ft I'm working on best only 1.55. Lower control arms stock with press/tack welded spherical bushings.
I have a set of the hybrid QA1 coil overs(top of spring in stock pocket) with 350 lb springs that on the protouring site most guys felt they were too soft and needed a 450 lb spring. I've never installed them yet.

Originally went with the Viking 450 springs (as recommended) on my street car, but the shop urged me to get the 550s, as the 450s didn't seem to have enough range/adjustability at the ride height/stance I wanted.

Do you guys see a big advantage to going with the full long-travel coil over conversion vs the hybrid coilover set-up vs a double adjustable shock and factory location spring?
I need to make a decision on which direction I’m going on my 70 TA. I figured discussion on the topic would be helpful for the thread. For now my plan is primarily drag racing and street driving. Once I finally do the 6 speed conversion, I’d love to do some minor autocross stuff. There’s a autocross event every year at the Good Guys show that I’d like to participate in. Here’s a video on the long-travel conversion https://youtu.be/bCdKPHMolQU

James. I watched the video and I would think that the best way to install the brackets is with the frame off the car. Lots of work but easy to do. I'm going with the double adjustable shocks with coil overs. Springs sit in the frame on top. I don't see why this would not work for you as you could always change the springs to suit your ride. One spring for drag race and change for street driving. I have never seen the extension tower till now, so my opinion is limited.
