Default Convertible top Help????

I see where automatic transmission fluid is used in new electro-hydraulic systems, for convertible tops, is this the same for 1953 systems? The top is down now, I have pushed and pulled on the switch on the dash and I hear the pump running but no top movement. I suspect it is low on fluid but I need to know what to put in it if this is the case.

Typically brake fluid or ATF was used. Check for color of fluid as an indicator.
