That looks like a very honest car to me. Loaded with luxury options like full instruments, reverb, AC. You would have thought with the other options, it would be an automatic trans car. 3-speed manual is so refreshing. I imagine it will bring a high wining bid.

Just a question, would the underbody of this car be originally painted with the body color or just red oxide primer? I have not seen any painted with the body color.

Often times it depends on the build plant.

Never just red oxide on the early GTO’s.
Typically body color overspray on both sides behind the frame.
And of course the painter that day of a mass produced automobile.

Thanks for posting this. Clearly a very responsible person owned this car. If you scroll down to the documentation there’s a letter from the insurance company stating they were able to secure the owner $50k/person, $100k/accident bodily injury policy. In 1965!!! The current California minimum is $15k/person, $30k/accident. And there’s a sizable fraction of people driving around with ZERO insurance.

I thought 1966 was the only year GTO that carried an upcharge for 3 spd in the floor ??¿.??¿ what's up

And also a line on window sticker noted - See Above for Extra Charge for GTO Optional Engine / Trans
Those 2 lines are new school to me !

I also see what X33 is asking about on the floorpan belly - it looks full solid Dk Blue Met
and its a PMD build ... have not witnessed that much and that uniform "over spray" before.

That was probably a contingency for covering him at all , the premiums would have been about double or triple duty for that much coverage in 1965. That was Hope Diamond coverage

Also noted on there is the 4way Flasher plus Labor to install , and Undercoating

The first couple pictures of underbelly looked solid Blue , but that was an illusion.
In other pics it only goes in about maybe 10-12 inches ... more normal.

Whoever and whatever they used to remove the undercoat got fantastic results from what it appears

More info on trans option from the performance brochure. It shows different ratios and was available beginning March 1st 1965 lining up with same week this car was built.

I didn't look closely enough to catch that. That would have been something had he ordered it in that color!

Lots to learn from this UFO - Unrestored Factory Original.

It’s clear in a couple photos of the under body of where the Blue overspray meets the black.
It’s difficult to see here on the PY photos.

The “dry ice blast” is the way to go, especially if you are taking off that decades old undercoat.

That Original owner knew exactly how to operate the wing windows, “push here”, which is the safest way to prevent damage to those fragile frames.

This ‘65 does have some rust issues however.
I’d like to see the trunk floor.

I just saw the dialogue about aluminum drums from the seller.
Picture 197 shows cast iron drums and a quick magnet test will verify.
Pic 236 seems to me to be the last rough draft before they finalized , and he dropped them.
And like 428ho4spd said - I sure do wish he had kept the Cadillac Firemist color ! that he also dropped

The 14x6 Kelsey decal likely peeled off the spare wheel in trunk.
It wouldn't have 14x6 brake drums.
KH made steel wheels too - usually a KH stamping can be found on their rims under a full investigation even if the tire has to come off the rim to find it.

Ask him to post the Car Billing History Card from PHS , please , if someone could.
That would definitely have the Aluminum Drum Code even if the accounting dept missed it in the dollars and cents.

Its a sweet machine and I hope one of you guys on here buys it.

Very legit car, like 60Stuff stated i would like to see the trunk One photo of rear wheel well seems to show rot, also DS rear qrt.

I was amazed how clean the control arms were and thr fram almost look like fresh paint.

Did anyone see it at MCACN this year?
