'73 Trans Am no a/c dash bird
I'm try to finish a dash insert for my car and have found conflicting information on whether the dash bird should be to the right side of the dash or closer to the volt meter. Pics on the internet can be found to support either one.
Thanks, Rg |

I think I bought this particular bezel from you a long time ago.

Thanks Anthony, I found other pictures of 1970-71 with the bird in the same location as yours but then I found some with it close to the volt meter.
Also found this thread http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...17#post4355117 I THINK the bird should be close to the volt meter on a 73-74. Rg Last edited by raggedjim; 06-01-2018 at 03:57 PM. Reason: New info... |

I just checked my non air 73T/A and the bird is indeed next to the voltmeter.

On my 70 T/A it's located to the far right.

The woodgrain was different every year too - unfortunately both of the 73 bezels I have are A/C ones so no birds.

The Left Voltmeter alignment sure looks good. Symmetry with shifter. After I first posted I realized wood grain example could be wrong for TA. Now it seems we have the bouncing bird scenario

Confirming. For the '73 TA (engine turned dash) the bird is above the cigar lighter (when A/C is not equipped), as pictured earlier.

My 4 spd '73 TA non-A/C, non-SD has the 'bird above the cigar lighter same as in the pic posted by SD73.

I believe that on the engine turned TA dash inserts, the bird is to the right on ‘70s only. ‘71 and up should be on the left. I don’t know about changeover from 70 to 71. I doubt there was a clean break at the model year and some late 70s May have had LH birds or early 71s May have had RH birds. I have some data on this. I’ll look and check back.

In addition to my 70 dash I have a 71 with bird to the rh side. It also has all black bezels which indicate it isn't very early production.

Well, I'm with you fellers, I'm going to put it on the left. I couldn't find a decent 73 aluminum dash so I welded up the holes in a later dash to make it favor the 73 dash (it still has the larger wiper opening, but as far as the rest it will be close).
I'll post a pic once I get it done. Thanks for the replies. Rg |

left, right, mines a middle! I didn't like the big gap to either side. as we know holes were drilled and clipped on from the factory. I got a new bird and ground down the pins and put it on with silicone adhesive so as not to make my bezel permanently altered.

Thanks, yes I made it. started with a no ac base firebird bezel, bored the 2 holes to trans am locations, then pain stakingly applied the engine turn decal. I epoxied metal in the blinker arrows to further clean it up and ordered the speedhut gauge with built in blinkers and highbeams.
