So my phone alerts on this 68 Sprint convertible with 5 minutes to go. I'm kinda surprised to see it with 58 bids at $6,800. In the next 3 minutes, 20 more bids hit and you can see where it finished.
It might have the numbers matching original engine and the nodular 3.55 posi tear, but the ad still didn't ID whether 3 or 4 speed manual, either of which would be Saginaw. Wow. Has the Jay Leno 68 Sprint Firebird created this much value? |

Even $2500 would have seemed retarded for that Sprint as far gone as it is.
Maybe their auctions are being sabotaged by some disgruntled person/persons. That is about the only idea I can come up with - - because there is no one who would want that car to restore unless it was free. ... and even then I would decline it Or maybe Jay doesn't have a title to his, and needed this one. And David Letterman knew about it and was shilling the price up against Leno ? |

70 GTO 4-speed convertible (242 car) in Illinois at $20K BIN. Project car frame off and from what I can see a lot of the hard work has been done. Seller says he has the seats, transmission and "a" 400 engine (prolly not NM). It's black, so the bodywork should be easy to see imperfections. It's worth the asking price IMO. Sometimes people just lose interest in these types of projects and want it gone.

Really attractive color and nicely restored car. Apart from the engine decal and the 4 wheel drive rear ride height I don’t see much else wrong.
That being said I’m surprised by the price so far for what at the end of the day is a base v8 engined 2 speed auto Firebird with an incorrect conversion to a 4bbl. I’ve noticed in the last two years that 67-69 ragtop birds are really pulling strong numbers. It is especially striking on pedestrian (as opposed to the high demand stuff like 400’s etc) models like this one. Beauty car though.

I think its mostly striking too.
But the Rally Ones aren't working with it. The HO stripes don't look good on anything. Hiked up in the azz is weird looking. Took a hit on left side of rear body near lock and the crack in the decklid is probably a result from that tweak , or when someone tweaked the decklid after the fact to get some alignment back to it. Calling it a paint crack in the description, but the substrate beneath the paint is what cracked, and the paint follows that. Fix all the above and change to R2 wheels and whiteline tires and it might get closer to its desired number. Air cleaner is pointing wrong direction and missing the 1 year only sheet metal preheater tube assy from driver exhaust manifold. Should just get a louvered pie pan breather to go along with the theme. Could be a classier looking car and fetch more dough , than as it sits. |

Another pretty car. 68 350 HO Firebird 4-speed in Autumn Bronze located in Alabama at $67.5K (yikes!). It's a beautiful car, but the hot rod dash gauges and aftermarket steering wheel devalue this car a bunch IMO.

70 T/A 4-speed no engine or transmission in Nebraska at $1 NR. This car is too far gone IMO and whatever it bids up to will prolly be too much. If you started with a nice unrusted base 70 Firebird and made a T/A clone out of it, it would be a better ROI.

Random question... If you owned this car, would you leave the "replicated strobe/flasher lights" on top of it? I for one, would not. An insane $53K BIN in Florida.

I would definitely keep the lights, don't know about keeping it on the car.
The holes would need fixed if off though. It is relatively rare being a NASCAR car and not just a 25th Anniversary TA.

69 Firebird 4-speed FDB dealer car in at $26.5K in Illinois. Looks like a respectable car with some rust. The vinyl top looks like it has rust underneath it. Looks like they took this car in and don't know much about it. The engine is a Pontiac and I would guess it has #48 RAIII heads, but it might be #46? If it is a desirable Firebird or GTO 4-speed block, prolly worth $24K. Seems like the dealer cars are all looking to get $50K for any running restomod first gen Firebird. This one still has the original shift knob... rare to see that. When I was 16 I took the shifter knob off my 70 GTO and replaced it with a Hurst T-handle because it was easy and looked cool.

69 Trans AM NM frame off professionally restored in Illinois at $139K. 4-speed car without gauges I would guess is not the norm for 4-speed T/A? if you think about it, if you started with a decent Trans AM numbers matching car, you'd be in at least $60K and prolly more just to start. This car I'm guessing has more than $139K in it. If this is the car you want and you've got big bucks, this is really nice. Not sure if it's $139K nice, but I'm not a 69 T/A expert.

Just noticed how off the hood tach is on that red 69.
