Grills for 72 Gto

I had my front grills re-chromed and came out very nice but the inside are pitted with chrome type Pitts and bumps. What would be the best method to clean these up so I can paint them correctly. Or should I send them back and see if they can do it? I hate to scratch up the finish they just completed which cost me $500 to do.
