Default 1971 GT-37 455 HO - offered at $17,500 to PY members

This is the same car that was offered here a few months ago. After several offers but no money changing hands, returned PM's to full inboxes, and other circumstances, it's time to offer it up again to PY members for the price of $17,500.00

Readers Digest version:

This is a PHS documented HO car and retains the original block, M-13 trans and 12 bolt limited slip rear. The car has never been hit, is very straight and solid. I've owned the car for 28 years and am the second owner. The original carb, distributor, air cleaner and exhaust manifolds are missing. The factory installed heads are not available, but a set of correct "early" castings are included.

Someone serious needs to buy it, too solid and valuable a car, and with some work would make a killer keeper. Factory built HO 233's just don't come up for sale very often, I can count on one hand the factory HO 233's I've had a chance to buy since buying my first over 25 years ago.

Diego, on Dan's old list, it's the only HD 3spd 455HO GT-37 noted.
Of 54 455 HO GT-37's, aprox 34 had a manual trans, never will be an exact number of HD 3spds or M22's, as many HO GT-37s have not survived... good educated estimate is less that less than 20% of the factory built 455 HO GT-37's remain today.

Not that it matters, but my original purchase price is a matter of record... Right after I got the car home, I wrote to HPP and bragged about my new find. They published a sentence or two in the "rare finds" (or something like that) section in the back pages of the jan (or nov?) 1989 issue. IIRC, the overall magazine cover was a semi closeup of the front of a red 65 GTO in front of a bunch of green trees... Anyway, that was my 15 minutes of fame.

Market is very soft right now for cars that aren't near mint survivors or fully restored. My experience the last couple years is that 99% of people don't ant to mess with any cars that need metal work of any kind no matter how rare the car is. Similair senerio with paint. Good luck with the sale. Very nice piece of Pontiac performance.

this is the type of car that you don't want to skimp on, its worthy of doing right which can get expensive, unless you can do all the work yourself. Seems this is a car to do right and have as a keeper for bragging rights. Hey, this car is for me and its not to far away. Damn, Its just not the right time.

Seems to be the case; my 71 has not elicited a single response; neither bid or get stuffed comment.

Anyway, I'm back to the original PY price of 17.5 and looking for a legitimate buyer. I'll run it for a week or so and if nobody steps up, it goes back in storage for another 10 years or the next muscle car "bubble", whichever comes first.

Let's get this thing done!

Mods, can you please drop the "Ebay listing" note and show the price at $17.5k in the original post... Or should I start a whole new thread?

There are more than 120 people actively watching this auction, I'd guess there are several interested buyers in there... So I'd like to remind people that I've nothing to hide here, and all questions that serve to clarify the condition of the car are welcome.

That said, the pictures do really tell the story - it's a well used but solid 44 year old car.

I look at it another way...lack of questions usually means a VERY good description.... typically.

Personally, LOVE the car. Right year- color-motor. Automatic would be perfect. To do a sloppy resto on it would be a crime.. Deserves a first rate resto with the means to do it.

Cool car, maybe if you relist on ebay you should add GTO in the listing heading. If you did that more people would see it when they search GTO too.

I would try ebay again in a couple of weeks. I don't think I have ever sold a car through this board.Lots of great people with a wealth of knowledge and opinions, but I don't know about car buyers. Very cool car you got for sale.Ten years ago I buy it myself.

Agreed - it's very hard to sell a car on this board - even as NICE & RARE as yours!

I'd love to own it and have thought it over quite a bit but I have two full scale restorations ahead of me that I will likely never get done, have my Father's house in Massachusetts to empty & sell and one to build out on Cape Cod. (Not to mention one kid in college and another going next year!)

I have to be honest with myself and realize it would just sit here like it's sitting there & that's not fair to the car.

Best of luck with it - it's had a good home & deserves another one!

Maybe people don't realize what these cars were built to do stock?

Well, just like people will walk right past a 69 Firebird 400 4 speed to drool over a 350/350 Camaro, GT-37's still seem to be the red headed stepchildren of the Pontiac crowd. I'm sure if I was offering a comparable Judge it would have sold in a second.
