Default 2nd Gen Firebird air cleaner flexible hose wanted

All you 2nd Gen FB fans out there... PY needs your help again... I am looking for several original "in decent shape" flexible air cleaner to duct hoses. As you may or may not know, they have been discontinued and we are possible going to make them in reproduction. Please contact me at PY ext 105 if you have one available and do not need back. Thanks... GP Mike - PY Wholesale Manager

Would Love to Help. Need more information 1st.

Questions:

• If I give you one of my own off a car will I get it back or will it be a “gimme” to you and the cause?
• Can you post a photo or diagram of the part you are looking for?
• What year(s) are you looking for?
• Early/Mid/Late 2nd Gen?
• What air cleaner base? Ex: W72 220hp 1978 400 Pontiac vs. Standard 185hp 1978 400 are different base mounts and hoses IIRC.

I don't think you will get yours back. If you send me one, I can send you a repro one back. The photo is http://www.pysales.com/images/rfe137.jpg. We list the 73-81 years. Take a look at RFE137 on our web site and see more info. I've been getting alot of hits for this hose, so let me know asap. Thanks... Mike

OK Ours is different than what you show in the catalog. It has metal band and mounting clamps. Doesn't look like the one shown in your catalog images w plastic mounting clamps.

So, perhaps ours is an aftermarket like those I used to sell back in the 1980's and not an OEM? I don't remember.

I'll put the word out and see if I can have someone else who has an OEM provide on for the cause.

I have one of those,I mean the RFE137 with the clamps.I purchased it from another PY member years ago thinking it was a over the counter GM one.You are more than welcome to it as long as I get a repop in return when you start making them to replace this one. Just let me know.

74SD has the 'original' OEM fibre one. THAT is the perfect version to reproduce, not the later GM plastic one or the repro you had stocked at PY. "Everybody" would want to buy the most correct, original to the car version - and I believe the part would fit the 73-77 A and G bodies, as well as the 77-81 F body with Pontiac 400. That's a pretty broad potential market.

Mike are you aware there's related topics on your request, under 73-77 Abody and 77-81 F body tech?

yes I am aware of being in other places... I put that on there to get more exposure. Thanks.

I'm thinking we can get this project going if we get 1) an original one someone can let go, & 2) get a GP & Lemans tube & compare. I need to get this project going before someone else does it.

Your OP was a request for a "2nd Gen Firebird air cleaner fleixible hose wanted" YES? So why would this morph to an ABody item topic?

I wish more people with originals would respond w/pictures. But, getting the '73 people to cooperate is like pulling teeth.

Mine is (as I believe) an original 489908 F-body unit off of one of my '74 Formula's. The longer version is the 489909 and was probably used on A-, G-, and B-bodies.

Mike,
I have the 489909 in the original GM box,but it is not of the same material.I did'nt bother with a picture as I did'nt think anyone would be interested. This looks to be very useable for my 74 Formula as well.I just bought it for a spare. Not that I will ever use it.

The reason why I mentioned A & G bodies is that if it can be used on those cars too, then there is a greater chance of it being reproduced. That's what you want in the "reproduction world". If the A & G bodies are a little longer, so what..? So the tube is a little more crunched. I understand if they were really long, then the tube would not look right. Is that the wrong way to think??? I figure that you can't get them now, if it becomes available, it's better than not having it. I have a 69 GP... try to find a good 1/4 panel or fender or hood or door. Altleast there are FB parts available...

HFR, I believe the one you have is the correct one. I too decided to remove the one on my '74 Formula and it is the shorter version like yours.
