1970 GTO Judge Charleston, SC
Guy around the corner from me had this beautiful high mileage Judge.
Last name was Mims, lived in downtown Charleston on New St.. He bought it from an estate in 1971. It was blue(Lucerne Blue?) with a white interior and orange stripes. Ram Air III car with auto. also had a factory 8 track. it had a little bit of rust in the front quarters and ans some primer next to the Judge decal on the trunk lid. It had 154,000 miles on it the last time I saw it. I offered him $2500 in 1983 and he said that he already agreed to sell it to a friend of his. I believe he sold it in 1983 or 1984 to that friend. I have an old Polaroid that I took in '83 of it. Idolized this car as a kid. if anybody knows anything about it I'd like to hear. Hope it is still alive and kicking. |

Hi b4z, I remember that Judge very well. Saw it all the time in the late 70's parked off Savannah Hwy at an old style motor inn. Always thought about going in there to see if he would sell, but for whatever reason never did. Ended up buying a clean 67 GTO from a gentleman at the AFB. Never did forget that Judge though. A few mos go buy. I was working nights at a club called Stonehenge in N.Chs. The place would hold 1500 people and had a Huge parking lot. One night a young lady asked me to walk her to her car. Of all the spots to park, hers was right next to that same Judge. I left a note asking the owner if interested in selling i'd be there till closing. He looks me up. Got directions to his place on New street and went down there to look the car over next day. Nice guy, told him how i'd see the car on Sav Hwy. all the time. The car was OK but did need TLC. Ram Air 3, auto, atoll blue, parchment. Also seem to remember the block was a SR. Never saw the car around after that. Always wondered what happend to it, same as you.

Isn't that the truth. I've only been able to find a couple of GTOs in the area and they weren't much.

Yep. it was on New St.
He knew I wanted it. Don't know why he even talked to you. LOL! The reason it had such high miles was because he actually commuted froom Greenville to Charleston for a couple of years!!!! can you believe that? I'd love to know were it is. I believe he sold it around the '83-84 time period. When he wouldn't sell it me I went ahead and ordered a first year '83 H.O. Z28 5speed for $11,678.48 cash. My life savings for being a 20yr.old at the time. Car came in without the H.O. motor. Wish I had upped my offer and bought the Judge. |

i was amazed someone posted they knew the exact car and had actually looked it at and then someone follows up and says they may actually own that very car... that's insane! so cool the connections that can be made on forums like this.

I agree 100%. I purchased the car in 1989 from the family of the previous owner who was deceased so I was unable to get much history on the car. There were some documents in the car indicating it was originally from the Charleston area, I found this post and the description makes me think it is the same car. Unfortunately it doesn't look like b4z and Pushrod have been active for some time, I was hoping to see that Polaroid.

you're right. i hadn't noticed that both had really low post counts. pushrod's last activity was late 2016, maybe he'll log back in. b4z has been on the forum in 5 years, so that looks less likely. that's a shame - would have been a cool connection. i didn't see an email contact for either in their profiles.
