WTB 1966 Tempest Wagon
Hi, I'm looking to purchase a 1966 Tempest or Tempest Custom Station Wagon . I'm looking for a rust free car but will consider all . Engine or transmission not needed as I will be installing a rebuilt OHC in it. Even a junk yard body that is decent from the firewall back will do. Any leads appreciated. Thanks,Don

I'm just curious as to how many 66 wagons you have found thus far, considering there were only about 4000 of them made, if I remember correctly. A friend and I searched for a couple years for a 67 Tempest wagon in decent shape, for a reasonable price. We found maybe a dozen to fifteen across the U.S., in various stages of condition. I am a cheapskate by nature, and passed up (regrettably) on good condition wagons just out of my price range. I also passed on a few wagons that would have required high shipping charges. I finally settled on a 67 Tempest wagon in Kentucky, on eBay, and got into a bidding war. I overpaid, but won the auction. Our family made a road trip of it, and met the seller in West Virginia, where I trailered the wagon home. Once I got it home, I realized, although it would run and drive, it was definitely not road worthy. I never came up with the time or money or enthusiasm to rebuild it. Later, I found another 67 Tempest wagon locally. I bought it for a reasonable price, and brought it home. It needed less work, but I didn't fix it either. I traded away the second wagon, and am down to just the first Tempest wagon. It just sits in my driveway with a tarp over it. I lost interest in the poor thing, and realize I will never find the time or money this rare car deserves. Good luck with your search for a 66 wagon. Luke |

Still Looking
Hi Luke,
Thanks for the message . I have not found the right car yet . Most of the ones I checked on were either totally blown away with rot or converted into "GTO" wagons .There are not too many out there .There is a nice one on EBAY right now that will be ending on Tuesday . |

I just looked it up. It's an AC car to boot. It sounds like a good deal for you. Don't forget transportation costs on top of his whatever his reserve is.

The ebay 66 is listed here also: http://cars.trovit.com/index.php/cod...n_type.1/pop.0
The dealer in Oregon is asking $16k for it. |

I don't recall seeing a 66 or 67 wagon sell for much above $12k in excellent condition. But it's worth what someone is willing to pay. Teej from this forum sold an excellent Tempest wagon for much less. I wanted his wagon, but did not have his asking price, so I purchased elsewhere. He later had to lower the asking price for a quicker sale, but I passed it up, as I already had a wagon, and didn't have the extra cash for the purchase of his wagon. You should contact him. He was instrumental in helping to look for a 67 wagon for me. He may still have a list of wagons from our e-mails to each other a few years back.
Are you stuck on a 1966 wagon? 1967 wagons are nearly identical. This would double your search options. |

Hi Luke,
I'm stuck on a 66 . I had one in 74 in high school .I spoke with the guy selling the one on EBAY . The car has a couple spots of rust starting to pop and the A/C does not work . His reserve is $14,700 . For that kind of money it ought to be better than perfect . Oh Well |

Thanks for the lead . It is a nice car that is in need of some work. It has a few rust issues and is missing some of its A/C parts . I spoke with the owner 3 weeks ago and made him a fair offer . I think he is 4-5K overpriced . Who knows ? He might eventually give me a call . Thanks again , Don

Hi Keith, Thanks for the lead . I looked back at your original posting and pictures . I will give the guy a call tomorrow and see if it is still available . By the way , my original 66 Tempest wagon was the same color and originally came with a OHC and automatic . It was just a Tempest and not a Custom as this one is . Thanks and I'll let you know what I find out . Don

Keith , I spoke with Gary yesterday . He still has it and is still at 3K .He says the worst part of the car is the LH 1/4 panel . It was previously hit and not repaired correctly .The gap between the LR door and 1/4 is too close . It also needs the correct LH tail light housing . He has a 67 one . Other than that the car sounds good . I'm still thinking about it . Thanks Again Don

If you decide on it, let me know if I can help in any way. Andy seems to be a pretty straight up guy. I bought a 62 LeMans from him a while back. Its been a year but the pictures pretty much show the car.
