I do better with a long gun than a pistol too.

Brings to mind the ill-fated Remington 700 EtronX Rifle introduced in 2000. It was a "modernized" rifle with an electronic trigger and one of the more mainstream attempts at incorporating electronics into firearms technology on the civilian market.
It consisted of a standard Remington 700 bolt action rifle, with the trigger and firing mechanisms replaced by electric versions. The firing pin itself became an insulated electrode, the trigger operated an electronic switch instead of a mechanical sear and a 9V battery fed a capacitor the energy to ignite a new type of primer which was basically a resistor generating heat to ignite the powder column in the round. The rifle was chambered in limited calibers and required special ammunition which was always in short supply. The rifle failed to sell, and was dropped from Remington’s catalog in 2003..
