Transmission leak?
I have an unfired 428 in my 67 GTO. The body is still off. I have a TKO600 bolted to it with a lakewood scattershield and block plate. I also have a hydraulic throw out on it. I put sealer on the bolt that holds the throw out to the tranny. I recently painted my garage floor. I first did the side with the body on a two post lift. When I did the other side I pushed the chassis with the full drivetrain out and into the side with the lift. So I was doing this by myself so I had to bounce it a couple times to roll it over the steel hump between the two posts. After it rolled over it looked like antifreeze was on the floor but felt like oil so I thought maybe the grey paint made it look green. So I assumed it is the transmission as the oil was dripping between the scattershield and the block plate. When I pull the rubber boot off where the hydraulic line goes in which is the same hole the clutch fork would go through and look in with a flashlight there’s a small puddle that looks green laying in the scattershield again maybe it looks green because the scattershield is black. Any ideas? Sorry for the novel but trying to get all the possible info out.
Thank you. |

It’s antifreeze but how does it get inside the scattershield?

Nothing on top. How would it get past the block plate? Maybe down to the crank flange and dripping in?

After a year, I developed a small leak from a rear frost plug. It only leaked when the engine had some temperature in it. I used some of the stop leak pellets that I had and seems to have stopped the leak, so far. Unfortunately, I see that you have not run your engine yet. Maybe the leak is minor enough that it can wait. Otherwise, as others have said, there is a frost plug R&R to be done, which , of course, is the proper repair.

I had this same thing happen and I thought is was the rear frost plugs but it wasn't. Turned out to be the rear antifreeze line (Heater hose) on the back of the head that feeds the heater. Was running down the back of the block.

Well, because it’ll drive me nuts I dried up the little bit in the bell housing and borrowed a pressure gauge from Advanced Auto. I put it on 15 lbs and I’ll check it in a few hours and tomorrow morning. So far not a hiss or a bubble. Transmission is still installed by the way.
