Default Reputable shop for rebuilding tempest 4 cylinder

I am considering pulling the engine out of my mother's 62 tempest for a stock rebuild and wanted to know if there were any reputable pontiac engine builders in the southeast that are familiar with these engines. It is losing compression on one cylinder so I believe that is why it is running poorly. Also, while it was out, I was thinking about converting the car to a fuel injected setup using Fast's new self tuning EFI setup. http://www.fuelairspark.com/ezefi/default.asp Are any intakes made for these engines that accept a 4150 holley flange? She doesn't want a hot rodded engine, but an engine that will be dependable and get decent mileage.

my 62 gets over 20 mpg(usually about 25) and its not optimized..61 style dual plane with roch 4, and 1 ram air exhaust..

the 4150 style would be easy on the 62-63 single plane too..they are neat , bulletproof, little engines...

we will be making a real tri-y header for them very soon, which should help a bunch..

"Bulletproof" Hehe, that's the laugh I was looking for yesterday.

Best bet on the intake is to cut and weld a V8 performance intake, but you could simply put a 4150 adapter on a stock intake. That said, this seems like a lot of money for a stock rebuild and overkill for a 400 cfm application.

To use an adapter, I would need a 4 barrel stock intake, right? Or is an adapter made to go from the 4150 to the stock 1 barrel intake I have on it now.

I used a local engine rebuilder / engine machine shop.I checked to make sure he had the info for the slant 4. He even had the specs. for the cam regrind. The rebuild kit had all the necessary gaskets and seals. It was a V8 kit with the 4cyl. stuff. He even got the proper valves and push rods and rockers it needed.Check with other customers to see if the work is done right. And now would be the time to change the seals over to the better ones. The info was published on this forum. The motor is nothing special, basic motor rebuild. As far as the EFI, Ihave no clue. For me a carb. works just fine. John

4 bbl intake, yes. Never seen a 4 to 1 adapter.

You don't want to try and make a 4 bbl EFI work on a 1 or 2 bbl intake anyway because the flow characteristics would be jacked to hell.
