Default Just curious. Dyno numbers for 63 SD with 980 heads and bathtub intake

I'm just being curious as I've never read actual dyno numbers. Read about other makes of the era but not a true 63 SD with all the 'goodies'. Thanks.

When I did my 980 engine we did not run a Bathtub. The Bathtub was usually worth a Xtra 30 HP.My 980 engine made 538@6200 with a Iski solid roller 250 on both on a 108.434 CI,heads flo 260.It is in my 63 Lemans today with a old faithfull hyd roller and the bathtub. It was run on Verbanzic dyno in so cal a long time ago.Tom

Here is a nice link to a video of a 409 Chevy and a 63 421-SD built by Butler Racing on the dyno. Not exactly what your looking for because it didn't have the bathtub intake on it, but still cool. 488 HP is pretty amazing for that time period IMO. My sort of replica SD engine in my current 62 Catalina made 487 HP at 6000 RPM's with the replica Bathtub intake and 2 AFB's. Flat tappet solid cam similar to the Mckellar #10. Biggest difference on my engine is the D port E-Heads and the restrictive iron long branch exhaust manifolds. The compression ratio is a 90 octane friendly 10:1. So giving up 25-30 HP there. Link won't post, I will try again

I was just 'dreaming ' what guys like Arnie were making hp wise to beat the other makes,z11,426 III,thunderbolts. Esp that Ohio race were Arnie beat all of the fast cars with his 63 Tempest including Dyno Don for the final.

I was reading about grumpys cars. The 66 II before he raced here Stahl's hemi for top stk at one of the times grumpy removed an illegal engine. I think his 67 396 they said was gotten from Penske after it was acid dipped for road racing. Arnie must have been a real aggressive engine builder to be in front.

Most of the Chevy's in 62-63 were drag racing the Z-11 version of the 409. The original "High Ports" and and Air Gap intake, 427CI version of the 409 with a bigger cam also. Most had aluminum sheet metal fronts.

63-64 425 HP dual quad "plain" 409s also had a bigger cam than the 409hp 409 62s

I was reading yesterday about the chevy mark II big block. They had one of these special engines( different than later big blocks which I wasnt a where) in Mickey Thompsons corvette. Hmm wondering if that's the same car that got passed by the 63 Lemans at Daytona? From article chevy wanted to win stock car racing... the z11 was zoras project.
