I would like some information if you could. I have a 75 Trans Am 400/4sp, numbers match, except for, it has 4X heads and a 160 mph spedo. This was not offered in 75. Is this an early model, or what? VIN # 2W87S5N525369. The head has 4X D N J083 on it .. I have not torn down the engine yet to find any other numbers. The tag on the radiator cowl saws RL 400 GM 20K43. Any help would be great.
thanks, Mike |

Hi Mike, I'm new to this forum too and have had my '74 TA for just under a month now.
The numbers you mention on the head, J083 are the date code. J would correspond with October. 08 would be the 8th day and the 3 would indicate 1973 (or possibly 1983?) Not sure on that digit as I know nothing about decoding after 79. Check this site out http://www.teufert.net/ and look at the menu on the left for ID numbers and part numbers. Mike, if you want to downgrade for originality's sake, I have a set of virgin 5C's for you. They came off my running engine but need to be reworked. I'll trade you for your speedo too!
