Default 66 2+2 fuel tank

On a 66 2+2, Cat, Bonneville, GP, etc, is the fuel sending unit mounted on top of the tank or on the forward facing wall? The reason I ask is this particular car has a replacement tank in it and it mounts from the top and the sender is out of calibration big time. I'm seeing conflicting information searching for a sender.

On all of the US ‘66 full size Pontiac’s I’ve seen with factory tanks (not including wagons), the sending unit mounts in a recess in the middle of the top forward edge of the tank. The fuel lines coming out of the sender point directly forward towards the front of the car. I can supply pictures if needed.

This looks like the tank in the car but the sender in it is about 2- 2 1/2" off the floor of the tank and with a full tank it only reads 2/3rds. That's why I'm questioning if they ordered the wrong sender.

Thanks for the info guys, I bent the pick up lower which also lowered the sending unit in the tank. It works perfectly now. Thanks again.
